I am about to start building an outdoor climbing wall, and I want to bolt it so I can lead on it since I live in a flat place that does not have a gym. I was wandering what kind of bolts I could use, and where I can get them. I don't think I've ever seen bolts for climbing walls, but I know there in gyms. So, any info please let me know. Thanks!!

You cannot just bolt hangers to a plywood wall with T-Nuts, they will not hold the forces generated in a lead fall. They must be backed up substantially.

I will agree with rrradam on this one...my suggestion would be to email Professional wall builders...goto our search and find the link for holds and walls and find some of the pre Wall buikders and email them with yoru question. Epterprises Walls, Eldorado Walls...those are the first I can think of. Hope that helps

What if you are building a bouldering wall in your home and want to be able to practice your clipping and such? Would t-nuts be sufficient for this?

If you just wanted to practice clipping, yes. But DO NOT lead on these, they are not safe for a fall. But if you just want to practice clipping, just screw in small brass eyelettes, you can clip them as a 'simulated lead', and they will not tear up your wall.

I think I've figured out how to bolt it, but what kind of bolts do I use? I know I can't use bolts that you use on rock. Can I use regular bolts, like from the hardware store?

many places will use a 1/2" Grade 5 bolt. do not buy from a walmart or the like. goto to a real hardware supply store to purchase these bolts to be sure of the rating and quality. CWIG (Climbing Wall Industry Group) spec calls for a strength rating of 4400 pounds per bolt. be safe, if you cant do it right - dont do it at all
