Doesn't bother me. Although I guess, technically, it's wall climbing. Most people who call it rock climbing just don't know. Don't be mad at them, educate them and feel sad that they do not know the joy of rock!

Hi Vaness, It doesn't bother me either, the place I go climbing, indoors, has walls that resemble "rock" very realistically, they feel pretty real also.It should be called wall climbing, but who wants to be called a wall climber. It sounds cooler saying you rock climb. Check out the place I go www.cliffhangers.com Climb Happy Mitch

Don't get yourself caught up in a tiff over something so petty as to what people call indoor climbing. Whining about something so insignificant is sad.

You can't expect certain standards, from people who nothing of a particular sport. Those who call indoor climbing 'indoor rock climbing' obviously do not have a very good basis of the understanding of the sport. Don't get down on them for that! I must agree with Chris however, that it is not worth getting yourself worked up just because of some 'non-climber's' climbing terminology.

Who gives a rat's ass about what people call "indoor" rockclimbing. Climbing is about the freedom of expression and movement. And oh no...somone is calling indoor rockclimbing just "rockclimbing." Lord save the world... Grow up. -sONofsPorK

that wasent very nice!!! she didnt mean it to be mean and she wasent saying she "expects" people to call it climbing. shes just saying its annoying. people can call it whatever they want. its like when people hate it when sombody leaves the toilet seat up. ya know? its just one of those things. you didnt have to say grow up. that was kinda mean.

I'm a brand new climber and I must admit, The first time I went to an indoor gym I felt like I knew nothing,(because I didn't) I don't want to feel stupid or judged because I'm not lingo savy when I'm tryin a new sport. I did, however, tell friends "I climbed the wall" That felt appropriate to me. It was a blast! -S.

Rock climbing, wall climbing , brick climbing, plastic climbing, tree climbing. In the end it's all CLIMBING. Who cares what others call it.

When i tell people i climb indoors they go and when i explain about traing on artificial walls, and it isn't the dictionary term rockclimbing, they're more like So i just say, "I go rockclimbing!":D and then they and keep walking.

isn't it all the same? okay, no it's not the same i'd rather climb outdoors any day. but in the winter time its gym or bust. and even though i may not make it outdoors for a month or so in the winter, i'd still like to think i'm a rock climber. true, gym walls aren't much like real rocks, but you're still climbing and it's still great. so theres my two cents worth climb or die!! I am a cyclist too. Is indoor cycling really cycling? It is training AND it is cycing. I look at indoor climbing the same way. Its all the same process. For some people it is a means to an end, for others, it is the destination. Some people climb on plastic exclusively. If that is fulfilling for them, than more power too them. I don't think they should be looked down upon because of that choice. Peace.

I'm a Climber. That's what I tell people. I'm not a "rock climber" or a "wall climber" or anything more specific. I'll climb rock, plastic, trees, sides of buildings, you name it. I love the gymnastics of climbing. I'm not in it for competition or a love of nature. I'm just a Climber. ttfn - woody
