This is for those of you with home walls. Given the choice would you rather have a wider wall or a taller wall. I am planing a wall in my garage and have the choice of either a 9x11 or 12x7 wall. Either will be adjustable between 20 degrees and 45 degrees. Thanks for the input.

I have an 8'x8' wall and wish that it was both taller and wider. If I had to chose I think wider would be better, course I like to do long 80-100 move traverses for training. With my current wall its like 2 maybe 3 moves to either side so it gets really boring really quick.

Its not about the size, but what you do with it. (sorry, couldn't resist) I would definately prefer more width to hight.

I'm 6'4", so I'm kinda biased about wanting more height. Think about your actual room to move. At 12'x7', your range of movement up and down and side to side would be pretty much equal. At 9'x11', you'll just get really good at traversing. I'm so happy mine's 17'x12' :D .

thanks for the advice, and okie_redneck, please stop bragging about how long your woodie is! Actually I think I may have found a way to have both length and width. And boy, is my wife happy!

Cover the whole garage in plywood. Then build an addition out back and cover that too. Build build build build build... it's never enough.

both. width is fun for traverses, but if its not high you will soon become bored.

i have a wall at home and i prefer width. You can practice footwork that way. Can't you add on later and make the whole garage the wall?

I am currently planning and buying materials for my wall. I think that I will, soon, have most of you beat in size  I am taking out the ceiling in my garage witch will then open up to my attic. I will then have a 25' tall and 15' wide wall. Oh, and then you can count the two side walls. They will both be 8' wide and 25' tall  and all the room I need for overhangs, cracks, corners, aretes... hehe, come on over we'll have ourselves a climbing party:) I am not trying to make you jeolus, just trying to motivate!

Go tall. You can only do so much traversing. I am tearing apart my wall and rebuilding it after having made it too short. Great training for traversing though. If I ever run into a route with a 100' traverse, I am all set. Or, if it requires me to traverse back and forth 8 or 10 times without falling. Not enough vertical movement in a shorter wall to train well for the change in grip involved in real climbing.

Regardless of what they say. size does matter. It must be both long and stout or she will throw you out
