I make holds out of logs and stuff that i find outside, but sometimes they crack while drying. does anybody know how to prevent this?

I would imagine if you gave them a coat of paint or primer that would seal them enough to keep them from cracking, and hopefully not make the hold slippery.

Try using some lumber and a router you can make some mean edges. On my friends woodie, they have a toilet seat on the roof, a bit of rope. and best of all a trailer hitch.

If you want to use found wood, your best bet is to try and let it dry slowly. Put it in a plastic bag or something like that. Of course, that means you cannot use it for awhile. I agree with using lumber. We once make a great set of pocket holds by gluing several layers of wood together and then drilling in at various angles using the flat "spade" bits so that the hole can change angle as it goes in. Then we would smooth them up with grinder bits. We came up with all kind of pockets. Some were 5 or 6 inches deep.
