My daughter would like me to help her set up a slack line in the backyard. We do not have trees in a suitable location so, I was concidering using the post hole digger to make some concrete anchors below the level of the grass using eye bolts below ground level to anchor to. Have any of you done this? How big an anchor do you think is needed for a slack line. Do you think 120 lbs of concrete per anchor and flaired beneath the surface would do? Ideas?

Don't bother doing that.

I got about a 6 foot length of that heavy steel pipe and pounded it into the ground with an axe. It works great.

Slacklining anchors (for low lines) don't have to be a sturdy and people seem to think they do. My cousin set up one from the framing of his campus board to a steel pole in his basement.

In the picture below we only dug down about 2 feet into the sand and stuck in a piece of driftwood. It did lean over with the initail tightening, but once we got the line tight it held fine.

Great Idea!

The ultimate concrete post slackline anchor:

We just built this rig in suburbia where they cut down all the trees and name the streets after them.

3' deep holes.
(2) 3' lenths of 2 1/4" square tube steel
(2) 6' lengths of 2" square tube steel
(2) 1/2" eyebolts (opptional) or (2) 12" runners

*Note: Round poles bend! Don't waste your $.

Dig a 3' hole for both poles. Quickcrete the "Female" 3' peices of 2 1/4" tubesteel into the holes , leaving the tops at ground level (this way you can mow over them). Slide the 6' "male" poles into the buried ones. Use the eye bolts or use a 12" runner wrapped around the poles to connect your slackline.

It IS important to have a bombproof slackline anchor!!!!!!! I've seen carabiners break and bolts pull out of concrete during the use of a slackline. The above method is a proven method and is safe. I'll attach some pics in the next week or so.

Best of luck!!

Ahh yes great subject to ask because..... im gonna do the same exact thing this weekend!!!!!!!!. Well im a junior in high school and am in a construction class. soo heres what IM gonna do. you can too if you like it. im gonna have my slackline 4 feet off the ground, and you will have to have a 3 foot hole. the hole for the concrete that im gonna make will be 1ft. by 1ft by ft. the minimum depth for your concrete is 1ft deep cant be any shallower (sp?) or the concrete wont sure right. and obviously you'r gonna do that to the other side. then what im gonna do (just to make sure it will hold) i'll put a ratchet strap on each side going out so the poles dont bend in when i'm walking the line ( hmm sounds like my mom would say that) and if you want to do that, all you'd need to do is get an eye bolt put it as close as you can to the line and then down to the ground with a stake in the ground. easy as that. now im just a junior in high school, and i might have said something wrong and correct me if i am but i think all thats right. you could do it with the metal poles and take em down every time you mow the yard, but seein as i cut the yard my parents said that the grass has to look good if im gonna have it. but the metal poles would be too much hassel for me to do. hope this helps. good luck pm me if this is confusing i have some pictures that i drew up on my comp that i can send you

I use two concrete form stakes 3/4 inch diameter and 24 inches long, and one a-frame (I only have one tree), they have worked very well for me and I can take them anywhere I want to take my line.

I find a-frames to be the best way of all to set my line up, and even will use one between two trees. I can set the line and then "walk" the a-frame up tightly under it, adding more tension by tying the a-frame end of the line down at a 45° angle towards the ground.

Best of luck,
