Hey everyone just thougth i'd post up that i just ordered my first slackline kit. I've finally decided that since the gym in my area in which i've been slacking in is going to be closing soon, i should purchase my own kit. I bought the intro kit from www.slacklineexpress.com (great site, best prices and the guy Joe is really helpful check them out). I'm really excited and hopt to be on the line once the snow melts.

my parents bought me the intro for christmas. I took it out once in the winter to try it out. The crank is weird to get used to at least for me. I'm used to just running it through carabiners and using a few guys to tighten it. It worked alright once I got it going though. Just a heads up, I nearly snapped off my fingers messing w/ the release mechanism before I figured out that you could release it by fully opening the ratchet arm. I'm still debating if I want to cut off their wierd hardware and just buy some biners instead.

3 lockers, 100 feet of webbing = 40 bucks, simple and very efffective.
get an extra biner or two for a 3:1 or 5:1 pulley for tightening it.
..for anyone who wants to go to their local store and buy their own stuff.

True i know of that way but it is much easier to tighten with the ratchet.

For short lines, the kits are a waste of money. But if you're setting up a long line (especially with only a few people pulling), the kits are a pretty good deal.
For my 120 foot line, I get 5 or 6 people pulling on a 5-1 with $50 worth of pulleys and it goes up fast. But for my little 50-footer, two or three stout lads is all I need, no pulleys or cord necessary.

Taydude,
No worries if you want to convert your system to use carabiners. Ratchets work for most folk but I understand climbers liking carabiner based systems - afterall that's what I learned on too. We're actually releasing a "not so primitive" system so you get to keep the primo slings but the tensioning system is your basic 3:1.
If you have a primo the best way to convert it is to remove the 19mm bolts on the ratchet and simply clip your carabiner into the blue webbing. If you tuck in the edges on the blue web to end up with a 45 degree angle on each side it loads on a carabiner much nicer. The advantage there is it keeps everything perfectly flat as well as lets you reset the bite of the system or even soft point the carabiners out.
If you don't have the wrenches to do the job, we mail out loaners for a couple bucks if you need.

Though im a climber, i prefer the ratchet system as i may be doing this alone a lot of the time, atleast setting the line up alone. Thanks Joe.
