I can balance and walk on my line pretty well, but there's one thing I haven't quite gotten the hang of. I want to be able to jump onto the line from the ground, but have never been able to do it. Part of it is lack of commitment and bailing off the jump (the landing isn't too hot and I'd rather not spill). Can anyone give some tips? Is it better to jump on the line head on, or come from the side like a highjumper? How high are most lines you jumpo on (granted this will vary with ability)? Is it easier to jump on the ends of the lines or closer to the middle? Thanks in advance

Jump mount – either jumping forward or backwards onto the webbing works. Some find it easier to run/step forward and jump up with one foot or both and others find it easier to do a backwards hop onto the webbing. The backwards hop can be better for a more stable landing since you can lean forwards to counteract your momentum while the forwards jump is better to reach higher line. I always thought the backwards hop was much smoother and easier to learn, but you can't get a lot of clearance so it'll have to be a low line. How high up is your line your trying to jump to? I started off with say mid thigh high and worked my way up to about rib cage level - but I can't jump high at all - I use my forward foot to drop it for me before I get on it.. (very hard to explain..) One tip is if your coming with a step at say a 30-50 degree angle at the rope you can kind of "kick" your foot up there as you jump to "pull it down" to where you can get on it. It's hard to explain, but here's my highly compressed (grainy & small) video clips that might help. http://www.slacklineexpress.com/Movies/jump2.mov http://www.slacklineexpress.com/Movies/jump3.mov These don't really show it extremely clear since they weren't that high, but notice how really my body didn't get all that high, but one foot got high over the line and brought it down then I stood up on it? Standing up on the webbing is what really brought my body on top of the line.... I'll see if I can find some better footage of that if you can't make it out. If those links don't work both are hosted on http://www.slacklineexpress.com/funstuff.htm As for middle or ends, I prefer about the 1/4 far down personally, but I think that's just preference. If you go at the ends, it'll be very high up and won't drop down under you so you'll have to get a better jump. If it's in the middle, you might bottom it out or peel right off from slack. Somewhere in between might be best.

Cool... Thanks.. that's pretty much exactly what I want to know. Now, if I can just get a better landing zone or the guts to risk busting my ass on a hard floor....
