South East Highline "tour"..who's interested?

Can't Post

What's up everyone it's been a LONG time since I posted here and I figure what the hell..I have a project idea and and want to see who wants in. My sorry butt has moved out of the mountains and down to the dreaded Florida coast. (God the things we do to make money!Smile) About the only thing to do down here is to slackline because..I just can't bring my self to go to the gym. (remember my SIN...yeah.Cool)

Anyway, I'm planning a trip back up to North Carolina here in a few weeks from Nov12-15th tentatively. During that time I want to set up a handful of highlines at different formations across NC and possibly SC. I'm planning on filming and shooting all the highlines and will be editing together a video for my website. (No massive camera crew with booms and mic's so don't get excited..however if you have TV ready hot models bring them with you!)

I have rigged a few highlines in NC..

Devils Cellar @ Table Rock in Linville

Ship Rock near Grandfather Mtn.

Anyway, I'm looking to come back up "north" and do some more work on a few new formations. I'm looking at Pilot Mountain. (Yes I know the main formation is off limits to climbing) The tops of the climbing area, from what I remember, seem pretty even and would possibly be suitable for a highline. I know the Three Bears decent gully would be a possible setup site with good anchors on either side..duno about the other spots. A little help???

I've also considered the top of Moores Wall between Sentinel Buttress and the formation just to the right (don't remember the name right off hand) There is a pretty nice gap with flat surfaces on either side, but anchoring seems like it would be an issue from what I remember. Also, logistically I don't know how easy of a setup that would be. Long approach or you have to climb up to it. ehhh...

A stop in Linville would be a sure thing. The setup and approach is so easy and the photo/vid ops are amazing. I'm also thinking about the Linville Falls area. I've been there a billion times, but I was never looking for gaps for highlines so I'm not really sure. Anybody know anything??? And how sick would a viaduct to formation line be!?!?! Yeah..not looking to get arrested...

Any other NC formation that you guys thing would be worthy or have good photo/vid ops would be appreciated. (Except Crowders! Horrible approach..i'm lazy...and rotten rock. Sent one there before and almost ate the dirt sandwitch of death when a pice of the main anchor blew because of bad rock.) If you know of gaps up to the ~70' range let me know please! Hickory Nut Gorge maybe???

I would also love to throw down a South Carolina highline. Duno if there are any spots down there to set up a line or not...doesn't appear so. bummer. Let me know if you can think of a spot. I'm also game for Urban highlines...again don't want to get arrested, but if there is a "somewhat" secure place that I could throw one up that would be cool.

So this is a cry for information and a shout out to let everyone know that you are more that welcome to come out and give the highlines a shot. I'm no professional rigger and highlining is still a relatively new thing so the risk and responsibility of your life is in your own hands. (Isn't it always???) I would love to have some help with the rigging which is quite extensive and time consuming. That and going out and having so much fun by yourself just doesn't seem right.

So who is interested!? Hope to hear back from some people soon. Again this trip is completely tentative on weather and ..sadly..work. I HOPE to make this a go, but I do need some help. I have a few friends that have said "yes" but deep down I know their schedules are tentative as well.

So..if you're interested or have any info on gaps or places I don't know about please let me know. Thanks so much and hopefully we can get this thing going here in a few weeks. Stay safe out there!!

~Josh

Hey man.

I'm keen for any highlining on the east coast, but I don't know for sure what'll be going on during that time but please keep me updated. I've never been down to the Carolinas, so I can't help you with what lines to rigg, but I've got a few lines under my belt with some gear to throw into the pot. I'd b3e coming from PA though...

Right on man! I def. will keep you updated and that would be great if you wanted to help with the rigging. I've tried to get in contact with a few of my old climbing partners from NC who helped with the previous setups and I have a for sure from one of them. I'm just going to keep an eye on the weather and will know more as the time gets closer.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for clear skys, mid 60's, with low wind. (Ha...yeah...one of three would be nice!)
