Is this the Next Big Thing? Will there be rivalries and competition? Records made ("Rim to Rostrum: 12.84 Seconds") and records broken? And just who will mandate the rules and officiate proceedings?

Does Hans Florine have room on his server to add Speed Slacking records to his Speed Climbing website? Or should the people petition the Library of Congress to allocate funding for a dedicated facility?

Is the IOC interested in adding another sport to the Olympic Games agenda? Speed Slacking could displace some other sport, perhaps ridding the world, once and for all, of Synchronized Swimming.

And just how in the world is Pepsi going to integrate Speed Slacking and Britney Spears (Jamie Lynn Spears????) into a single ad campaign?

It would be a great thing to do if you no longer wanted childern.

I think they should bring Synchronized weight lifting into the games.

wow, you're really on to something. i too dream of a huge marketing empire built around the simple slackline. think of it, so easy and inexpensive to make (nice profit margins, especially if we contract some chinese labor house to make 'em for us.)...all we need is to establish brand loyalty by having the coolest slackers on our team, and a catchy name that captures that rebel side of slacklining while still be a brand that parents can trust. with the help of product placement, and a firmly established reputation, we should be able to place ourselves at the top of the heap and be "the" slackline to have. i think it best to follow the bmx marketing model on this one, and have the speedslacking be more of the "bmx racing" part of the industry, and we can have the tricks, etc. be the "freestyle" side of things. dream with me here, there could be "slackparks" where the kids can show off their extreme style that has already been firmly implanted in their heads by an aggressive marketing campaign. (coca-cola...the official soft-drink of the slack generation! 7-up...we're slack like that! taco bell, and the slacklining chihuahua!) there will also be slack-tracks were the fastest slackers race across lines to be the first to cross the finish and be champion! and lets not forget those rebels the "street slackers"...smokin' dope and drinking 40's and setting up their lines were ever the hell they please. city slacking, or urban slacking if you will give us the ties to the hip hop community that will push us into the realm of a world power, while still giving the lonely boy in middle america a "bling-bling" slackline dream to cling on to when the kids at school make fun of him for not playing football. we will be eastcoast westcoast and worldwide, all at once! mainstream, yet rebellious, the perfect extreme sport. any interested investors, let me know...i think we can make this happen!

***i am just kidding...i think. but damn, we could be rich! -and extreme. -isn't that the american dream???

Yes, the proper market positioning is "The Newest Rebellious Phase", in the manner of skateboarding.

To Wit:

"Professional skateboarders do not belong to any formal group or adhere to any rules. They are paid through clothing and gear endorsements, and sometimes for demonstration performances at shopping mall parking lots and the like. What makes them stars is not any sort of score or numbering system, but their ability to do tricks and stunts that are captured on videotape and then distributed.

"Oftentimes, a loosely bound group of skaters will assemble cameras and lights for illegal shoots at prohibited venues, bribe security guards to look the other way, and then work from midnight to three or four in the morning. A typical scene might involve a rider "Ollie-ing" (jumping his board) onto a staircase handrail at a famous/landmark building, and then "Hammering a Backside Nose Blunt" (sliding down backwards with only the tip of the skateboard contacting the rail) while "Signing" (displaying an extended middle finger to the camera).

"The video is then copied using ordinary VCR machines and distributed via an underground network to the core audience, who will examine it, over and over again, seeking out and commiting to memory such minutia as the color of the wheels, or how the rider ties his shoes."
