In short, NO. That is a piece of tape to make the webbing semi-continuous when they put it on a spool. I wouldn't trust my life to an inch long piece of masking tape, you probably shouldn't either.

As already mentioned... That is just to make two pieces of webbing hold together while it is being spooled up... This type of "splice" would probably pull apart when you were tensioning the system up anyway.... Assuming a slackline set up... I would think tying the two pieces together with a water knot would hold up, but not sure to what amount of tension water knots are good for though... What would you be using this for?? Good luck out there Junior

Good luck out there Junior there's a documented case of someone using a piece of webbing for an anchor to rappel off a climb, and the webbing had a splice...i don't recall details, but one climber asked the other one what the tape was about, and the answer was something like "oh, it came that way...", and if i recall correctly, someone died as a result... but yeah, i would think it would just pop apart from the tensioning itself. i've also walked lines with knots in them. it's hella distracting, but it can be done.

I extended my kids slack line and spliced two pieces together with a water knot. Left 2" tails and nothing has slipped. Hell, it's only 30" off the ground anyway. I dont anticipate it coming apart and check it each time but there is little downside.
