Yes there's a pretty good guidebook to the basque country. It's in English, Basque and Spanish.

lodi5onu, you mean "Euskalarria" guidebook, right? In my opinion itīs ok if you climb hard routes and you want to get a general idea of the climbing areas here. What I donīt like of this guidebook is that it has too many pictures and few low-middle rated routes. Also, that itīs expensive (30euros!). Too expensive for a climbing photo album!

kylerose, apart from the guidebook mentioned above, there isnīt ONE single guidebook, There are many of them. But some of them are difficult to get because they havenīt been updated or published again. So, if you want some info of a specific area, let me know īcause I might have the info youīre looking for.

I agree, there's not much in there below F6a. I used it 2 weeks ago at Valdegobia, and another day at Oro and it came in handy, but it seems there are more routes at the crags than are in the book. Overall pretty accurate guide though.

As for the price, I didn't know it was that expensive! I got mine as a gift Laugh

So, youīre still in the Basque Country? How is going the climbing?
Did you like Valdegobia?Where did you climb there? You know that some areas are prohibited, but many people still climb there. And Iīve been told that some anchors have been removed (by people who donīt want climbers on those walls). But lovely place, isnīt it?

About the guidebook...itīs ok to get an overall idea of the climbing areas. And also, for English speakers who canīt speak Spanish or Basque is the best choice īcause itīs in English.

No, I'm back in the states now. Went there to get married and snuck a few climbing days in as well. They were angry at me for stealing one of their basque girls, hehe.

We were climbing in the bosque at Valdegobia, not in the meadows. We did talk to a lot of ppl climbing in the meadow (prohibited?) who said it was a bit touchy. They had just replaced the anchors on the route they were on because a guy removed them. What a beautiful place that area!!! Spaniards are sooo lucky. Crags that would be 4-5hr destination locations in the states are a dime a dozen there. It makes me jealous.

Congratulations for your marriage! You made a good choice, we are good people...he,he...Cool

In the "bosque" it is not prohibited and there you have easier routes (6a,6b, 6c...).In the meadows (in most of the routes) cimbing is "supposed" to be prohibited...but people keep on climbing there. Some years ago villagers used to call the police and they fined the climbers who were climbing those routes. Now villagers have decided to remove the anchors!!!

Yes, youīre right, weīve got many areas near home. Remember we live in a small country and it doesnīt take long to go anywhere. And weīve got nice limestone walls. The worst thing is the weather, the well known "sirimiri" (that light rain which wets the rock and is with us most of the year Mad).
