Does anyone have the new Petzl Reverso? I don't. In a catalog I found: 'easy change to auto-locking insurance from the belay'. What does this mean? What can it do more than a normal ATC? Are there other assurance devices with 'auto-locking insurance'-possibilities?

This is not a belay devise that is good to use from the ground. It was intended for use on multi pitch routes when you are belaying from above. From the ground it acts like a ATC. It is not a replacement for the Gri Gri either. It is very good for a lite belay device when doing those long multipitch routes with a small diameter of rope when you are the Leader.

Looks pretty cool, but like Fiend said, it looks like it's primarily for belaying from the top.

Yeah, I saw that demo, but I still don't get what's meant by autolocking insurance.

I've used one once at work, it seem just like an ATC just I didn't know what all it could do.

Sounds like "ïnsurance" is a translation error from the french. Probably it just means security mechanism or locking device.

By the looks of it (only, as I've not belayed on one), when it's used directly from an anchor system belaying a second, it automatically is in the "lock-off" position, but I don't see anything that actually grabs the rope and truly locks it, like with a gri-gri. Personally, I don't see much of a difference than with an ATC.
