Hey everyone. I was just wondering what you think is a suitable age for someone to start leading on trad? Just out of curiosity more than anything.

I didn't let my daughter lead trad (first pitch of Cathedral Peak in Tuolumne) until she was 14, and she had been leading sport for 5 years and following trad since she was 6.

I think that it depends more on the person than the age. I know a 7-8 year old that could lead trad, but I also know a few adults I would NOT trust my life to making a good decisions placing a cam or stopper. There is an understanding of how the gear works that needs to be understood first and some people just can grasp so concepts.
