I was curious if there are any good current deals on Trad Rack packages? I have about a half rack so one of the packages will fill me out nicely.

Those packages are almost never good deals. You might save 15% percent but you will end up paying for stuff you really don't need (like a full set of hexes and non narrow headed small cams). Decide what you want, go to your local shop (not rei) and see if they will cut you a deal if you buy it all there in one go. Failing that use spadout.com to watch for 20% off deals on the gear you need.

Yeah, that was one of the problems I was having. I kept on finding all of these sets but have stuff I already have! Really all I want is a full set of nuts and a full set of cams.....and maybe two of those nifty link cams ;)

Lots of local shops (and some online probably?) will let you mix and match to get the a package discount...you will save more in the long run buying exactly what you want/need.

Also you get 15% off From EMS with a student id. You might be able to get that extra discount by calling their 1-800 number. Worth a shot.

gearexpress.com usually has cam sets for a discounted (slightly) price and nuts and hexes and.... you get the picture. Right now: Metolius Mastercam set- $280 Black Diamond cam set (.4-6)- $580 -Or you can get 3/4 set bundles for BD I agree with the others, buy what you need and you'll be saving quite a bit. Good luck! ... and, if you find any outrageous sales or discounts give me a shout!

Ha, it seams impossible to find deals on pro! I've been to EMS closure sales where everything there is discounted 50% except the pro! I've been to REI garage sales where they sale everything at 70% off, except climbing gear which they don't resale (probably a good policy, although I'd in a heart beat pickup cams and stoppers after inspecting them) The deals that I've seen at places like RRR and other festivals were no better either! I'll check out my local gym and then check out the local REI along with a few webpages, make a price comparison and then a purchase.

Eventually I hope to get out west once this season. However, I am an aspiring trad leader, so these cams will be my first. I'm like a proud new father.

Heh, unless you're going to Moab, you typically won't need that many of the same size cam. You're better off with a full set and doubles of the mid ranged cams. If you're climbing at the Gunks, a single set of cams, a set of nuts, and a set of tri-cams will be more than enough 98% of the time. Good luck though! Climbing out west is amazing :D Noooothing like that single pitch east coast stuff ;)

Didn't mean to mislead the OP. The cams are not the same size. The sets of C4 cams included a .5, .75, 1, 2, and 3. The C3s, I can't remember which sizes exactly, but there were also 5 of varying size. Both sets were around $250. Not a bad deal, unless I'm way off base on prices.

Looks like the lowest price they list right now for a full set of BD stoppers is $62.50, and you can readily compare the price to the other big retailers.

And I'd rather give the business to the local guys who will still make their 20% (The MSRP is 40%-50% higher than the wholesale price) off than some anon guys online.

It might even be worth calling them and asking them what they can do for you. Rich, the owner, is a great guy and has helped me out in the past when I was looking for a better deal. It surely is worth going to his store! Cudos to Rock and Snow, great store and very helpful employees.
