Some shoes stretch hugely, some almost not at all. Your first pair should be comfortable rather than excessively small. Your technique will be too poor to notice the effect of tight shoes.

Try wearing them for another day or so. They may stretch as suggested above.

I know that you should buy shoes a bit under size since they stretch out overtime, but is this common? Also, try taking the shoes off between climbs. I notice that a lot of climbers, especially those who wear down-turned shoes, have calluses/bumps on the back of their heels, where the show is pressing in. You either have to be O.K. with it, or get another pair of shoes.

IMO, the title of the post, while a bit clever, could give some the impression that Mad Rock shoes cause pain. The reality is that ANY brand of new climbing shoes that are purchased on the small side will likely cause some pain (at least initially). This really has nothing to do with Mad Rock.

Hmm, can't say what was written so I will guess. Did it look anything like this?
Served wrote: So....here goes. I'm not a climber but have been looking for a tight pair of shoes to have "relations" as they say, with sheep. Not ugly sheep either if that's what you were thinking hahahah. Anyway, I've noticed that the bumping and extreme motions of the act preclude having tight climbing shoes on. The Mad Rock shoes in particular dig into my Interphalangeals and really wrecks the mood and my ...errr, enjoyment. Anyone else have an issue with this and what do you do instead? It's making me quite mad. 2 words for the graduate. "Hip Boots". That is all. Hope it helps in case I correctly guessed your original post. If not, I'm sure it will be of assistance to others although I won't be so crass as to name the many posters.
