Hey guys! (pardon chauvinist implications)
I started on a sport Rappelling team in high school an realized that there was a much larger world than rappelling. I started to ascend. Since then I haven't been the same. I would say that my voyage up into the wild blue yonder started back in '97/'98. My time out was very sporradic and I had little to no real time to hone any techniques. Rescently (about eight months ago) I went nuts........climbing faces every day after work, going to the rock gyms late at night, buying neccessary gear to hit the hills. To make a short story long, my partner (who also taught me volumes on climbing) split leaving me alone and drastically unmotivated. (summer in Phoenix didn't help in the motivation dep't) I am very serious about climbing but desperately need a little coaching in my tough areas and I really just want someone who is also into it just to talk to (can relate to the same things)
{AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH! this is begining to sound like a personals ad!!!!!) To clear up any confusion I am happily married and my wife likes to climb too, but again she is at a (insert condescending remark here-) lower skill level than myself.
Any advise?

You had a rappelling team?? Did they compete? and how??

heh, sorry, I have no good advice. I'm not particularly experienced, and I don't have a full-time partner that can teach me a ton. I climb with one guy now and then, Steve (aka wildtrail) that helps me a lot, but I can't help you much. Uh...whoops

Our "Team" was comprised of basically three groups; the good, the bad, and the excuses. The good-which I was lucky enough to be blessed captain of- were mostly upper classmen who also climbed in their free time. The bad were the kids who couldn't remember a figure eight knot for a millon dollars!!! The excuses...."I can't do it because my doctor says I have an extra bone in my arm that prevents me from rappelling right now". Or my favorite (this one's true folks!!!!) "I have a heart condition and asthma and I didn't bring either meds....and I'm having an asthma attack right now!!", says soon to be dead cat as he's already on his way.
We competed internally (the good that is) timed exercises from tie in to touch down.
Sorry for the abrupt end but I just heard my boss come in and I need to simulate some work now

Try finding a local rock gym or bouldering area, start a conversation with someone until you meet someone that you would consider for a partner. Chances are if they are alone they might be hoping to meet someone also(sounds like the dating scene at a local bar). Rinse/repeat until you meet that "special" someone.

Thanks. I was frequenting The Arizona climbing center (with partner) but unfortunately it was closed down. A big problem that I run into at gyms are all the gym rats and rock snobs either they know nothing other than top roping gym techniques or else they're busy telling me that my figure 8 weighs 6 grams more than their ATC and therefore isn't as good as theirs. I'll keep looking though. I need to hit the gyms anyway, to get in shape for the upcoming season. I'll find him/her eventually.

Did you try putting up a post in the Partners forum? I myself have an abundant supply of "rock mentors" I now consider myself extremely lucky and blessed.

I also liveing and AZ know where your comeing from. My partner too moved away, who also taught me EVERYTHING about climbing only to move out east. This caused me to stop relying on him for gear and to get my own. Now i was lucky enough to be climbing with others. But for you try hooking up with some of the other users here like Crackaddict and others, sorry for volentiering you crackaddict, i have not personaly met up with them but they have always said i could tag along. A gym to go to if you dont have a partner is Climb Max the all bouldering kinda limits the need for a belayer, now spotter.

Good luck, cant wait for winter!
