I am thinking about getting some Cobras as my first climbing shoe. Are they good shoes to get?

I like mine but as anyone will say try them on first. It doesnt' matter if I swear by them, they may not feet your feet. I assume you know that they aren't the most comfortable shoes.

Awesome Shoe-YES!!

Good first shoe- No
I love teh shoe, you want a technical shoe, but not one designed like the cobra that will put some hurting on you I wear a size 41 street shoe and my cobras are 36 .5

the Cobras were my first shoe and will probably be my last (I own a pair of V10's as well, but the Cobras are still my favorite). I sized mine super tight (street shoe = size 10, climbing shoe = size 7), but they were still pretty comfortable (which is all relative to the amount of pain you are willing to put up with).

I like my Mythos for a first shoe.
They have some stretch. They are relatively comfortable.
I'm about to make them my outdoor shoes, and get another pair for sport

I reccomed getting a lace-up or velcro shoe for the first time. My frist shoes were Boreal Stinger. They have awesome feel (my frien using lasportiva miuras was really shocket when he tried them on) and power. Or you cold try the new Katana or the good old Miura.
Lace ups or velcros are good because they encourage foot technique, but try getting a shoe that has the better feeling; dont buy a shoe that feels like a crampon although it has much power; it is a good thing to be able to FEEL the footholds so you learn to trust your shoes and get experience in searchin for footholds.

I had cobra's and I find them quite good. It's also very easy to put them on and out, but now I'd rather buy velcro's: they have the same advantage and you can make them fit better (slippers like the cobra's can slip out while doing heelhooks). I can't tell you much more about climbing shoes, because I haven't had many pairs until now.

i absolutely agree with jdean. my street shoes are 39, cobras 36 but fit perfectly. (ouch the pain first three months )
they are my first shoes and i am not planning to buy any others in the future.
great for sport and indoor.

Cobras are great, and if you are new to climbing, your going to go through the rubber on them pretty fast.
