You can learn to boulder in a gym by watching others and copying what they do. That said, at a certain point a technique class can be very helpful. Just go to the gym and try. The bouldering crowd is usually very friendly and will help you get started. At a minimum you will need rock shoes and chalk. You can rent the shoes at the gym and you can buy chalk at the gym. Good luck!

At the very least, the gym will test you on your belay skills. If you are a beginner, you will need to take a belay class. It's a very short class, by the end of the hour you should understand the mechanics of belaying.

Go to the gym. Meet some people. Make new friends. Find some partners. How old are you? If you are a kid, you can join the climbing club at the gym. If you get to be a strong climber, you can join the climbing team. The teams typically take lots of outdoor climbing trips.

Climbing clubs are not free. If I were you, I would go to the rock gym. See if you like it. If you like it go to the gym frequently. If you like it so much, talk to your parents about joining the gym and the climbing club. I think your parents would rather you do something healthy...

You will build up your tolerance once you learn how to climb.
