wow- it went at $31? that's great- it got driven up some, but still, what a score!
if i were an ice guy (or any kind of hammer guy), i'd have ponied up three times that.
i wanna know when a bam nut and an old padded gear sling are gonna show up for auction.

Still have a Forrest drop pick hammer with short shaft. (Couldn't afford the, original, McInnes terror drop pick hammer at the time) Not used it for a least 10 years, but would still trust it.
The Willans harness was great if used correctly. I took several substantial falls in mine and still have spheres. Many people forgot to clip the rope down into the crutch strap, hence the ball crushing and inversion. I have seen almost identical modern versions in use in the construction rope access business.

weird- that's the same photo and the same seller as the one that brought $31.
i wonder if something went sideways with the transaction.
do you suppose maybe this guy is sitting on some mother load of mjolnirs?

I worked at Forrest Mountaineering in the 80's.Bill was way ahead of his time with a lot of his equipment designs (2-piece sit harness, big wall haul bags, single point big wall hammock, interchangeable picks for ice hammer & ice axe, ice paw gloves, bivy sacks and one man tesnt, pile clothing and the ice tools, etc...) and his 1st ascents on the Diamond of Logs Peak, in the South Platte and on the desert towers of the Southwest. The MSR snowshoes came later. Sadly, Bill didn't go in with RayJardine on developing the "Friends" spring loaded caming units. It was always "interesting" working at Forrest... Maybe the FFE will have a wake at My Brother's Bar...

The whillans harness only flipped you upside down and crushed your balls if you forgot to clip the rope down through the biner on the crotch strap. Had many falls in mine, never flipped, and never had bruised balls, although on some leads I could have wished they were bigger!
