As posted by Fiend in the World Climbing News Forum:

Hans Florine and Jim Herson have climbed the "Nose" of El Capitan in 3 hours, 57 minutes, 27 seconds. Beating the previous record broken by Dean Potter and Tim O'neil thirteen days earlier. Their ascent of the thirty-four pitch route beat Potter's and O'Neils by 2 minutes, 8 seconds - not an earth shattering time to beat the record by but still a very notable ascent of the 34 pitch route.

thanks compclimber.

Pete replies,

Nose, Shmoze!

What's the big deal?

Someone's breaking that speed ascent record there every two weeks. Hell, it's such a non-issue any more that Hans didn't even remember to update his very excellent website with Dean's and Timmy's previous record.

Look, if you guys (and gals) want to read about a real speed ascent record, a record that isn't likely to be broken any time soon, one that will actually stay in the record books for longer than a fortnight, read about "our very own" Pass the Pitons Pete's Speed Ascent of El Capin Hans' very excellent speedclimbing.com website.

The link is below, but since there is not a "back to the main page" button to click on, you will have to manually manipulate the location bar at the top of your browser.

Cheers, Pete

A speed ascent that will ENDURE

Fiend writes,

"Don't these people have anything better to do than race up the nose?

8a.nu tells us that Timmy O'Neill and Dean Potter dropped the Nose record down to 3h24min, that's just over half an hour under the previous record, set just a few days ago by Hans Florine and Jim Herson."

"What do you think about this, Dr. Piton?"...

"Dr. Piton?"

"Dr. PITON!"

Huh?! What the........oh, uh, (snort!)I uh, must have dozed off, eh?......

"So please tell us, how do you feel about the latest Nose Speed Record?"

"Is that all you have to say? Surely you must have something to add?

I was wrong. It only took 13 days to break the last record.

"But Dr. Piton............"

".........Dr. Piton?"

"Dr. Piton?"

HEC TIC!

As a new climber I still stare in awed wonder at the post of the time it took to conquer The Nose.
I know you guys probably climb it blindfolded as well, but dudes, I still have to get there. I MUST immigrate to the USA just for the climbing there...don't you guys have a job offer for a South African adrenaline junkeeeeee!

Something about The Big Stone that stirs the passions of climbers worldwide.

Those guys are the baddest-ass mo-fos around! Holy Moly!..

I know Tim and Dean and they are great guys. To be able to climb so fast and so well is beyond my comprehension! I wish I could climb so fast!

Mind you, climbing slowly does have its advantages......
