Everyone has probably seen the car commerical with Edmund Hillary, and the SUV. Well it's strikes a question in my mind, is he still alive, or did he die on the way down from Everest like a friend told me. Also is Tenzing Norgay is alive as well?

Tenzing Norgay died in the 80s. Sir Edmund Hillory is still alive. Your friend is probably thinking of George Mallory. It is not known whether Mallory died on ascent or descent in 1924.
