I just watched El Capitan by Fred Padula which was mad in 1978. I'm fairly new to the sport of climbing and I love to see the gear these guys were climbing with back then. My climbing partner has been climbing now for about 35 years and tells me that the movie might have been released in 1978 but the footage was filmed in the '60's due to the gear they're using. Does anyone know for sure when the filming of this climb took place?

I worked on this film (carried loads to and from the top; helped bring fixed lines down from El Cap Tower) and if I remember correctly it was 1969. Could have been 1968, I doubt it was 1970. To the best of my memory it was 1969. Where's Glen Denny? He would know for sure.

Possibly the best climbing film of all time, certainly a classic.

Currently being remastered in HD, but needs your help and time is short.

There are not too many things that drastically changed the course of my life.

This film really did. I borrowed this film in VHS so many times from my local climbing shop (AMH).

So eventually I ended up driving into Yosemite completely sleep deprived and nodding off at the wheel through Tuolumne..I crushed my fingers in the window .. I yelled and screamed in order to stay awake.. I could not stop

There was only one place I wanted to go.. As I came around the corner after exiting a tunnel I saw ElCap for the first time..

I navigated a crazy bunch of roads and drove past camp four at a high rate of speed.. I found some pullout next to a meadow and stared upward at my destination ..jumped out of the car grabbing my rock shoes.

I nearly flew through the woods and came to the sacred stone... I touched it, put my shoes on and began to climb...

Thanks Fred

Lets make this happen

I'm looking forward to seeing this film. I wonder what the estimated delivery date is now that November has come and gone.

On December 10th they requested that backers give them additional info to fill pre-order/backing support. ie, what size shirt, DVD or Blu-ray etc.

I suspect I speak for almost all backers that given how long we've been waiting to see this on DVD, the converted film quality is significantly more important than the speed of which it arrives.
