thanks...that is a great article. Harding was such a provocative and passionate character! Everytime I finish reading something about him, I end up wishing I'd have known him...or simply met him.

I like him even more now. It sounds like he would be more approachable, when he was among the living of course, then some of the folks that do in fact take themselves too serviously.

Does anyone know if there is a published and detailed biography on him. I think that would be a very entertaining read. Maybe Steve Roper would like to tackle that task.

Downward Bound - A Mad Guide to Rock Climbing by Warren Harding.

It was one of the first climbing books that I had purchased. I think that it got me off on the right foot.

The book is part auto-biographical, part "how to climb" and just out right fun.

Warren was very approachable. Years ago Warren had a film crew in the valley who were doing some whacked out adaptation of Downward Bound. He approached me at the Mountain Shop & asked me if I would help out like he's just some guy in a bar asking if you have a light. I didn't know what to say as I was some neophyte kid standing in front of a living legend. Needless to say I said yes! Kelly Repp & I helped them film all over the valley culminaing w/ The work at the Rostrum. Repp wore a helmit cam & took one of the biggest king-swings I've ever seen. I never found out if the film was ever released as I left the valley & lost touch w/ most everyone over the years.
