Of the 14 8000m peaks, which is considered the easiest?

Thanks for your input,

I don't know what other people think, but I would bet Everest might be up there. Come on, it is guided, served by a huge base camp and it is not that technically demanding. As for the height& altitude factor, it isn't that much taller than the other 8000m peaks. But hear me out, I am not calling any 8000m peak easy, and that is not to say that I don't actually plan to climb it some day.

Cho Oyu is the most climbed but hardly anyone goes to the summit. Gasherbrum II may be easier if you aren't the first team to arrive but it takes a lot longer. So you can pick an ugly mountain with a drive-up approach or a far prettier peak that requires a real hike.

I asked a mountaineering friend of mine about this and he said the general thinking amongst the guides at the moment seems to be that there are really only 4 8000ers that are suitable for amateur expeditions: Cho Oyu, Everest, Gasherbrum 2 and Dhaulagiri.

Of course, these are also the most climbed peaks, but calling them "easy" is a bit of a misnomer - he counted Cho Oyu as his "easiest" 8000er (he's done a few) but added that he still thought he might die on the way down.

I'd think Cho Oyu and GII.

Can't recall the exact title, but there's a book by the name of "Climbing the Worlds 14 Highest Peaks" or some such. Lists a ton of statistic (some, pretty sobering). As well as all ascents of each peak at that time. Pretty interesting...

Given the traffic, Everest still has a fairly high ratio of folks who don't make it (and don't make it down). Being much higher than the rest makes a big difference, I think, even if the terrain is comparable. Summit day by any route is a looooong ways.

Dhaulagiri? Hmmm....perhaps on the upper end of "amateur." It's my understanding that it's a pretty rough peak. 298 summits as of 12/13/1999, 53 deaths. Perhaps there is an "easy" way up.

Brianinslc....yeah, I have that book. Lots of kinda morbid stats about deadly mountains. Lots of famous names of great mountaineers with little crosses by thier name, indicating a fatality on the climb.

I think the G2, Everest, Broad Peak perhaps, Cho Oyu, Shisha Pangma perhaps as well...

Easiest? Well, no 8,000m peak is trully easy, but the one that has the least amount of difficulties is definitely Broad Peak. The rest get more difficult from there.

The rest of you people are just listing the most climbed/popular. Everest, Chu Oyu, GII, etc are not that easy. Not compared to Broad Peak.

Didn't you climb G2 csoles? What did you think of it? I have been kicking around the idea of going there, especially since I heard Pakistan dropped the prices of the permits.

I love it when people spout off "definite" beta about gargantuan mountains they've never been to.
