Sounds fun! I'd try to make it out there if you do it. I spent June down in the San Juans 2 years ago and it is the perfect time of year. Would love to see what it's like up in your part of the state.

Martha,
I'll definitely mark this one down. We finish the school year at the end of May and get a week or two off before starting our summer program. I always get away on a climbing trip at that time so I'll try to make this one.

Martha,
I hadn't considered that but it might be a good chance for me to do a nice long ride and also some climbing at the same time! Have to give it some thought! If I do make it and bring the bike you're welcome to a nice long ride!

I was already planning to take the week after Memorial Day off for a trip to Colorado, so you can pretty well count on my brother, myself, and anyone else I can drag along. Count me in for some of that late spring mountaineering too.

I was just in RMNP the weekend before Thanksgiving for an ice climbing intro course. The park was so beautiful! I've made the 8 hour trek from Lincoln, NE to RMNP four times in the last year.

Dickers Peck is good. Do it on the way to the 5.4 thing on Navajo Peak.

I'll take some alpine gumbies up something in the park if there is any interest. Maybe Spiral Gully on Notchtop - easy and short enough to do car to car in a day for people with minimal experience.

it really isn't a bad day to do navajo and the peck at the same time. without doing them both, the technical climbing is barely worth the effort of getting there. i'm fat and out of shape and i can do both car to car pretty easily.

atg200,

Sign this gumbie up! A good alpine mentor is pretty hard to come by here in Nebraska, so I'll jump at any chance I get to learn from someone with experience.

That sounds like an awesome time. Would anyone be looking to do some routes on the Diamond? I just might drag myself out there for that!

I'd suggest splitting it up a bit in those environs. Alpine climbs tend to have a lot of loose rock.

Big parties with inexperienced scramblers == high chance of somebody gettin' bonked by rockfall.

I'd be up for Lone Eagle Peak if there's another experienced multipitch trad climber who wants to try it.

Brad, you've picked a good one. The North Face of Lone Eagle looks spectacular.

If you can give me some definitive dates, I'm in for that one. North Face of Lone Eagle is the one route in the Indian Peaks I've always wanted to climb.

Some of the couloirs on James Peak might be good fun that time of year, too.

Oh wow! Lone Eagle has been on my tick list ever since day 1. I'd love to do that! The hike in is pretty long though right? It would be like a 3 day trip. I guess that all depends on where you hike in from.

From Martha's side of the mountains, it's about 8 easy miles from trailhead to the base of the climb, plus 9-10 pitches to the top, only one of which is harder than 5.4, and several of which are scramble/simulclimb possibilities.

I'm thinking it'd be a start at 3 am, 12-14 hour ass-busting kinda day. Must go light & be fit and fast to make it, though, no doubt.

Brad,

Would that mean we can't bring atg's cooler with us?

Count me in. I should be moving a little quicker than I did on Pacific Peak by then.

... I'm off to the gym!

(oh, and tracy, we want to see a signed contract from you for this one!!)

my outing will be less exhausting than lone eagle in a day. i'm too old for that - i'll leave that one to a weekend trip.

i'm willing to take two people with me per day. i'll do an easy alpine route each day - spiral on notchtop one day and maybe something on sharkstooth the other. i can be bribed with beer to reserve a spot.
