Is anyone going to the Eastern Climber's Rendevous at the New River Gorge? I did searches for this and was amazed that no one has put anything up about it. It looks like it's going to be SICK! Check out www.waterstoneoutdoors.com for all the information. Free camping?!? Oh yeah, this is going to be great!

The free camping is not at Roger's . . it is on the NPS land. Should be an amazing time . . . all the reports I got from last year were spectacular!! Enjoy . . just respect the land and the owners of private property . . . the new is a beautiful place with stellar climbig . . don't f' up the access to certain crags!

I'm probably gonna stay at Roger's thursday night anyway. He's such an awesome guy. If anyone is lookin for partners, you'd probably be better off there for thursday night. I heard that the NPS free camping was dead last year on thursday. Mark

Free camping will be at Burnwood. http://www.waterstoneoutdoors.com/spec.aspx?pid=281 Last year people were putting tents up right next to their cars and not leaving enough room for more traffic. If you camp at Burnwood (as you should b/c the fun will be there) PLEASE SET YOUR TENT UP BACK IN THE FIELD and not by your car. Sorry for the caps and bold, I just wanted people to notice that. There will also be hospitality folks with cookies and flyers stopping by at Roger's, but as i said before, the action will be at Burnwood. Karen

Karen, Is there anything happening at Burnwood Thursday night? Will there even be anyone around? Or does the action start Friday? I saw that there is free camping, but it doesn't look like anything else. I'm thinking not a lot of people will be able to get out of two days of work so there won't be many around Thursday. That's why I was thinking of staying at Roger's to try to find partners. Mark

I was at Roger's this past weekend. He said that his camp should be packed by Friday. I didn't really ask about Thursday since I will be at work.

It's just north of the bridge on 19. If you're heading north, it's the first left after the bridge, before you would turn to go to Bubba City or the Junkyard. It's forest service multi-use property and we're really lucky they're letting us stay there! I've heard there are even some boulders on site! Mark

Do you know when you'll be arriving? I'm still lookin for partner(s) for Thursday, as well as probably Friday. I drive a blue '90 mazda protege, and I'll probably be on the porch. I'm planning on heading to Summersville for Thursday and beat the crowding on Orange Oswald wall if someone will meet me there. Hoping to do all/most of the routes on that wall. Lemme know. Mark

Your best bets for easy access climbs, after a long drive, are The Bridge area (or Junkyard Wall) for trad or toproping. For sport, hit Butcher's Branch at Kaymor. If you're coming south on Hwy 19, Summersville might be better. The hike in is longer, but it's 20-30 minutes closer(driving) than the gorge.

Hope to run into a bunch of you guys down there. Im the goofy lookin kid with the goatee and red/orange hair......apparently dark brown hair is hard to bleach :)

Took half a day off tomorrow. Leaving at 6, be there by 9. Driving a blue zx3 focus. We'll be staying at Burnwood cause it's free and we're poor. Hoping for weather like we had there last weekend. See you there.

This was a really good time. The DJ got crazy with the tribal house while the dyno comp jumping. Free stuff with a few donations to good causes and I got to get soaked by a few downpours. All and all, wet clothes have never been that fun. Sunday was rugged though. Just got to break camp before the real rain started. We ended up high tailing back to Pittsburgh, but not before making a stop at Coopers Rocks for some bouldering first. Thanks for a great time!
