pm - dookie until april 8th for any questions you may have

di-erections:

from the northeast:
From Interstate 81 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia:
From (2nd exit for) Strasburg, VA, take US 55 West. Stay on 55 through Wardensville, Moorefield and Peterburg, WV to Seneca Rocks. (55 makes a left turn at a light in Moorefield, and a right at a light in Peterburg. WARNING: these towns support themselves mainly by nailing unwary motorists with large fines. OBEY POSTED TOWN SPEED LIMITS.) Just past the town of Cabins and Smoke Hole Road, you'll enter the Valley (at New Creek Wall and the G-Spot). At the three-way intersection in Seneca Rocks, bear left on Rt. 33/28 for 11 miles south, cross the river and make right hand turn onto 28 south. Stay on 28 south for 0.5 miles and then make a left onto a Nelson Rocks Gap Road, a dirt/gravel road.

from the south:
From Interstate 81 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia:
From Harrisonburg, VA, take Rt. 33 (it is very odd in town..you'll have to go around the court house building) continue west 33 to Franklin, WV. Continue on 33 another 14 mi. and enter the Valley at Judy Gap. For NRP, turn left on Rt. 28 just past Judy Gap. Stay on 28 south for 0.5 miles and then make a left onto a Nelson Rocks Gap Road, a dirt/gravel road

From Ohio and Pittsburgh
locate Parkersburg, WV (on the Ohio River). Take U.S. 50 east to Clarksburg, WV; ( pittsburgh start here )I-79 south to Weston; and U.S 33 east through Elkins to Seneca Rocks. At the three-way intersection in Seneca Rocks, bear right on Rt. 33/28 for 11 miles south, cross the river and make right hand turn onto 28 south. Stay on 28 south for 0.5 miles and then make a left onto a Nelson Rocks Gap Road, a dirt/gravel road.

From D.C.
get on 66 west towards Front Royal, VA. Head south on Rt. 81 briefly and then west on Rt. 55. Continue on 55, winding through the mountains, following signs for 55 west at the small towns until you reach the town of Seneca Rocks. Veer left onto Rt. 33/28 south at Seneca Rocks. Follow 33/28 for 11 miles south, cross the river and make right hand turn onto 28 south. Stay on 28 south for 0.5 miles and then make a left onto a Nelson Rocks Gap Road, a dirt/gravel road.

for those that do not know the make up of the parking area...or how "we" camped last year (during the summer and fall)...

these next few lines will seem like greek...

TO OHIO:

since y'all will be the first to arrive...

we are leaving your normal camping area free for you (this sounds dumb...you can sleep where you always do ;) !!!! - the BIG tent wont be put up til friday...so if yall camp in pa's territory...move your tent friday morning please

until friday night april 2nd cars will be somewhat allowed in the parking lot - i'll leave that up to Pete H. (nelson rock's preserve general mgr. aka...da boss ) and OHIO's descretion

because the lot has a contant pitch from ohio to pennsylvania's camping area...we decided it best that we use the bottom 1/3 of the lot (all water runoff will then never affect other parts of the lot) As you pull into the lot, to your right, all the way to the creek...will be the gathering tent - kitchen / dining area / marked fire pit (about 4 ft in diameter...its a bigun and we'll need lots of rocks

we think there will be ample tent spaces on the perimeter of the lot

there are also level spots away from the main parkinglot...yet still close

parking spaces will fill up as follows...the enterence building, the two pull offs on the right after the entrance building (pull in perpendicular to the creek!!! that way we fit twice the vehicles)

my best advice...when you get there ask pete...or ohio...someone will know what's going on

be prepared to sleep tight this year LOL

for those at oozefest last year...this is gonna seem like youre all by yourself

we plan on having the shower this year

everynight the entrance to the parking lot will be closed to vehicles at dusk - possible 24/7 til april 11th

remember it's PBJ for lunch everyday...or bring your own ;)

each person driving to the event will need to provide themselves with the following

unless your state organizes otherwise - WATER

tent, bag, two headlamps (caving), extra pair of boots, raingear

a chair

clothes for 3 seasons
all eating stuff - f/k/s, plate, coffee cup, even your own BEER glass this year

here's the schedule for dinners:

friday april 2 - OHIO - hambergers and chicken

saturday april 3 - VIRGINIA - pasta

sunday april 4 - NORTH CAROLINA - beef stroganoff

friday april 9 - MARYLAND - hobo something

saturady april 10 - PENNSYLVANIA - chili

your probabyl saying jesus annie...what about monday thru thursday???

pffffffttt... don't worry about it ;)

as last year...charly and mike (you are short one chef, betaben  this year, i am sure someone will step up to the plate !!)

are breakfast duty

mike west virginia got it on the weekends and charley...during the week - charley let melissa know what you'll need -

if anyone gets some dumb idea that we actually eat healthy - FORGET IT!!

no fake bacon or sausage allowed!!! - other than that...we all eat anything

Is anyone going to be there the week before or the week after that? I've got to work straight though from April 5th through the 11th, but I don't want to miss it. I could be down there either 1-5 April or 12-15 April, but unfortunately wouldn't be able to be down there for the whole fun.

So, if I come down either before or after, will there be anyone down there to hang w/?

I think I'm leaning more towards coming down from 1-5, that way I at least get the first good weekend - just like last year :). Anne, Jess, Grant and the rest of you I met, I can't wait to see you guys again.

Mick

Jess - Fear not, I'll make sure I get Ken to come down again and fix his steak again at least one of those nights, along w/ my new friend from work; he just led his first outdoor route (second route ever outdoors) last weekend at Rumbling Bald, NC - he's eager to check WV's climbing out!

Darn, I was really hoping you wouldn't notice!! I felt absolutely horrible about leaving the helmet you gave me down there. We kept trying to make arrangements to get it back, but nothing worked out at the time. Can't wait to get back down there!

Where exactly is this being held..? The reason I ask, is because I am going to "try" to be in WV over Easter weekend for an annual whitewater reunion that I never seem to be able to attend. If anywhere nearby, I would love to drop in a couple of days during the week.

I have had plans to attend the Burn Out whitewater reunion (and even had the car packed) the past few years, but something always came up at the very last minute. This year will be different, because a couple of our members have passed away since last year, and thus it will be more of a memorial party in their honor.

Drop me a PM with the specifics, if you wouldn't mind...

What is OozeFest? Is there a story behind it? Is Ozzy Osbourne going to be there? Do you guys bite off the heads of birds? I now nothing about it. Feel free to tell me.

For the record, the Oz bit the head off a bat, technically a mammal, not a bird :D
