Something like the 2nd Street House (here, scroll down: http://www.ouraylodging.com/resrates.htm) would be good for the Ice Festival. 3 bedrooms, 2baths, pleanty of room for coed inhabitation, right in downtown Ouray.... and only $185 per night.... with 8 on more we'd be paying less than $25 per night!

I think I might have to cancel lest Geo snap a shot of me shirtless from behind and hangs it on his bedroom wall.

I do believe that I too will attend this gathering. Would anyone like me to bring anything other than beer and clean socks? Oh, and what is would we like to climb? :D  :D

In reply to: Superb! I like the idea of clean socks. We might also have to make clean skivvies a prerequisite. Skivvies? You wear skivvies? Real climbers go commando... I'm thinking of a group of climbers in the northeast.... :)

So... hypothetically, if I were to actually make an appearance at this gathering, would there be anyone interested (and capable) of climbing Sykes' Sickle and The Barb in a day with me? Or... Seven Arrows is another one I'm interested in... =) Josh (considering it...)

You're letting my secret out - my passengers WERE comfortable with me - NOT NOW! When do you need an answer for my camping/cabin reservation? I haven't read all of the posts. :) I'm looking forward to making this gathering if I can pull a trip trade. I called in sick FOR REAL last week. I have vacation in October 5-14 as well. Anyone up for some climbing during those times or maybe a low altitude hike? I am a 14'er virgin as well. However - I am interested in mountaineering if anyone has suggestions - I'm all ears. How to train for next years 14'r season etc. :) Gotta bolt (oops - I'm a trad guy - sorry) JD

Hahah.. I like how you think.. A bolt chopping kit isnt a bad idea.. I just got the Metolius adjustable daisys and they kick ass.. much easier than standard daisys. I only did the first pitch of CCC cause of time restraints, but I think I corrupted Scott. I handed him my Grigri to belay me with, and he said something along the lines of "WTF do I need that for? I can belay you fine with my ATC." I told him to trust me, and sure enough, an hour or so later he was laying on the ground with his pack as a pillow taking a nap while I'm up there going "DAMMIT IM TANGLED UP AGAIN!! Holy clusterf*** almighty!" :P PS - just to spray a bit more: I'm leaving for Yosemite in the morning! YAY!

geez, skibby, why all the hubbub about the weather and a little snow and 32 degrees? i live at 10,420 feet -- the weather does that here [b:c4f52b0c02]every day[/b:c4f52b0c02]! would you people just quitcherbitchin and realize that not all climbing takes place on warm, sun-dappled stone? and [b:c4f52b0c02]you[/b:c4f52b0c02], bob d'antonio -- that's [b:c4f52b0c02]it[/b:c4f52b0c02] ... you're going up the diamond with me this winter. yes, we will wake up at 0200; yes, you will be cold and miserable; no, there will be no sun. it will be frigid, dreary, and foreboding. it will feel like nuclear winter. and you will wish you were somewhere, [b:c4f52b0c02]anywhere[/b:c4f52b0c02], else every time i issue forth a maniacal laugh and beg for more cold, more snow, more wind. so find your polarfleece chick-beater shirt and expedition-weight lycra tights, bay-bee ... we're gonna' do some [b:c4f52b0c02]REAL[/b:c4f52b0c02], [b:c4f52b0c02]manful[/b:c4f52b0c02] climbing! that is all.

In reply to: so find your polarfleece chick-beater shirt and expedition-weight lycra tights, bay-bee ... we're gonna' do some REAL, manful climbing! that is all. Will there be ball-scratching, grunting, and flatulence to accompany this manful climbing? Will we discuss such manly things as football, power tools, 454 Hemi engines, heavy artillery, and sexual exploits? Will we chew tobacco, spit, and brag about how we could live in the Wild West? Will we say things like "Yeah, she wants me... I can tell," and "I'm smarter than a horse and hung like Einstein... that's what chicks like in me,"? (Um... did I get that right?) Or will we sip Chardonnay, eat Soy Jerky, and discuss how we'd like to find a relationship based on mutual respect, caring, and emotions, while snuggling under a warm down comforter in a Queen Sized bed? Are we men? Well, are we?

In reply to: reno - do you like your Chardonney buttery or oaky? And will you be snuggling under that down comforter with Geo? Salt and a lemon wedge with my Chardonnay, please. Snuggle w/ Geo? Uh, no thanks. He's a nice guy and all, but...

In reply to: reno - do you like your Chardonney buttery or oaky? And will you be snuggling under that down comforter with Geo? The only thing Geo will be snuggling with is his poster of Wolfie, Tracy's dog/sheep/whatever and a bag of year old soy jerky!

skibby -- okay, here's putting my money where my mouth is: got up at 0230 this morning. met my running partners. ran mt. massive from north to south along the ridge. blowing snow and clouds. 6 inches on ground and one-foot drifts. below freezing the whole time. no one complained. no one died. so there. :D reno -- we will eat lukewarm oatmeal and drink tepid coffee in the morning. then, during the day, as the north wind blows and spindrift avalanches sap the life sustaining warmth from out battered cores, we will do some good-natured bit ching about how we [b:abbe9f4872]could[/b:abbe9f4872] have been in cozumel, sunning our buns and oogling topless beauties and their pendulous produce while a senorita name of raoula -- whose belly looks like a washboard and whose dark, tanned skin and piercing brown eyes leave us drooling wantingly like stroke patients on creamed spinach day at the ward -- wears a furrow in the sand as she fetches us fruity drinks with little paper umbrellas and giggles like a schoolgirl on freakin' jellybeans everytime i run my finger up and down her rippled abs and, artfully rolling my "r"s, say, "ooooh, rrraoula has rrridges!" which is [b:abbe9f4872]doubly[/b:abbe9f4872] funny to us, seeing as she hasn't a [b:abbe9f4872]clue[/b:abbe9f4872] what the h&ll a pringle's is and doesn't know a lick of english save for what's on the cocktail menu. but back to [b:abbe9f4872]reality[/b:abbe9f4872] ... in the frigid night you and i will slide into our bivvies sans sleeping bags and spoon the way manly men do in such situations, and -- when fitful sleep finally overcomes us -- dream tremulous dreams until the cold creeps down into our bones and we both awaken in misery and i ask, "so, jeff ... what were you dreaming about?" and you answer simply, "[i:abbe9f4872]raoula[/i:abbe9f4872]."
