Skibby,

Can you offer any news on the snowpack on your side of the divide? From the vast flatlands of Saudi Aurora the snow line appears to be pretty close to timberline. I've been up to 10,000' or so in the front range, and most faces are pretty dry (with the exception of some small pockets of snow on northern exposures).

I'm still in, and leaning more towards rock than snow.

As I shall be moving to Denver the week before (new job starts June 2) I would like to attend.

Can anyone tell me details: Meeting place, what to bring, etc.?

Also, anyone need a ride from Denver?

PM me. Might take me a while to get back to you... computer will be packed this Saturday (May 24) and won't be out again until the 29th or 30th.

FYI: I have a fair bit of trad gear, but NO ice/alpine gear. Will that be a problem?

One vote here for "low land" rock climbing around RMNP. Lumpy Ridge is my first choice, maybe the Monastery as a second. For those not overly familiar with either area, Lumpy will generally be multi-pitch trad routes. Depending upon the route and the parking situation, there will be a 30 to 60 minute approach. Lumpy pretty much demands small climbing parties -- leader plus one, or maybe two on some routes.

The Monastery is a little east of RMNP and has one-pitch bolted routes. The rock is reminiscent of the Needles of South Dakota -- many small to monstrous sharp crystals for holds. But unlike the Needles, you don't need a telescope to spot the next bolt while leading. Expect a 40 minute or so approach that seems uphill in both directions. The routes at the Monastery will allow topropes to be set up for larger climbing parties.

We're less than two weeks away from the big weekend -- let's give Skibby some feedback.

If people are thinking lowlands would anyone be interested in basing this in/around fort collins ? great bouldering, halfway between boulder and vedauwoo...just a thought - its not quite the hills though - perhaps a camping spot would be better somewhere...

Hold the pickles? Oh boy. Not even going to go there.

If you decide to move the gathering, that would be RAD! I won't be back from my road trip to make it to this one. I already have plans to be in 11-mile the weekend of the 21st.

OK, there's a dearth of firm commitments, the snow at altitude has the consistency of kitty litter, and alpine climbs may be best left for later in the year. For those of us chained to a desk during the week, the weekends are for play time. I think I'm quoting one of the old-time Gunks or Yosemite guys correctly when I say, "Vy can't ve chust climb?"

Skibby -- pick a rock you want to get on and I'll share a rope with you. And make sure it's a place where mtngeo can ogle a goat or two (but I hear their coats are a little unkempt this time of year).

Unless it's snowing (like maybe later this week -- what's up with the weather this year?), I'll be climbing somewhere next weekend. Even a smaller outing should be fun.

I still plan to make it (me and whoever else I can convince to come along), but I'm not really qualified to give suggestions on where to climb.

I hear a voice from mtngeo to give a run at Elevenmile Canyon. I little browsing tells me both mtngeo & skibs didn't get a shot at the last trip there. So....why not make it round two, aka:
"Son of Elevenmile" (the gender remark isn't PC, is it?)
"Elevenmile Canyon, Part 2"
"Lake George -- where sheep are nervous"

The climbing's decent at Elevenmile (good granite, a lot of moderate trad, some hard sport routes, maybe a little light on 5.9 to mid-5.10), the camping's good, access to rocks is generally quite casual, and we can definitely keep ourselves entertained for a weekend. I haven't been in the canyon for a few years, so I'm up for the weekend.

Skibby & mtngeo -- let's do it!
