The only thing is, we need to find one that'll be open in October. Dad says that a lot of them are closed by then. Edit: Just sent an email to Baker River regarding whether they will be open or not. [ This Message was edited by: juliana on 2002-06-19 05:26 ]

Hey Juliana ... your map is good, but when you leave rt. 25 and head into Rumney, be sure to turn left at the 4-way after the bridge onto Buffalo road to get to the crags. If you turn right at the 4-way onto Quincy road, you'll see the Town Pound bouldering area about a mile down the road. As for camping ... it's a tough question. Call now to ensure they will be open then. I'll be there but I will not be camping. I live about 40 minutes away ... and a nice reminder ... the days are warm, but the nights get cold as hell. Bring warmth!

I'm going to make a good effort to make it back up here for this. I didn't get the chance to get up to Rumney so this will make up for it. Put me down for a maybe and I'll give you a for sure about 30 days out. BTW campsites are all well and good, where's the hotels and B&B's?

Finally got a hold of Baker River. They're open Sat & Sun, but not Friday and Monday, and the rate was $18 per campsite, two people, and then $9 for each additional person. Water, electricity, etc. I'll check out some other campgrounds, and find out about B&Bs and hotels/motels, too.

I hope to come yet getting a lift may be an issue. Rumney is definitely my favorite place to climb around here in New England, so I'm for sure on the maybe list. I'll probably come with poorclimberboy and his older brother who hopefully can drive us. Matt

Sorry I haven't posting anything solid about accommodations yet... I haven't forgotten but I keep getting sidetracked I'll do that real soon. I've called several places who say they won't be open. Does anyone know anything about the woman who lets people camp in her yard for $5? Or even know if this is true or not?

Crazy question from someone that is coming from the south. Where is the nearest affordable motel/hotel to Rumney? Mrs. Diego and I would be more than happy to get a room and let people crash on the floor (sorry, if I am paying, the bed is ours) if that is what it comes down to. -Don Diego-

This is the busiest weekend out of the year in NH, because it's both a holiday weekend and the weekend foliage peaks... if you don't reserve now you WON'T get a room. Okay, as far as hotels and motels go, I've never stayed in one up there, but I've got all the info here (should all be accurate, I just called them all). I don't know how any of them are quality-wise.
- Deep River Motor Inn
166 Highland St., P.O. Box 95 Plymouth, NH 03264 #800-445-6809 RATES: $78.95/night (+tax) for two people. $7 for each additional person, up to 4 people per room
- Super 8 Motel
Route 3, Box 355 Plymouth, NH 03264 #800-370-8666 RATES: Fri/Sat- $90/night, other days $75/night for 2 adults and 2 kids. Each additional adult- $5/night
- Susse Chalet Inn - Plymouth
Route 3 Plymouth, NH 03264 #(603) 536-2330 RATES: Two double beds or one queen- $79.95 for one person. One king- $89.95 for one person. $10 for each additional person (+tax, up to four people)
- Black Horse Motor Court on Squam Lake
RR 1, Box 46, RT 3 Ashland, NH 03217 #(603) 968-7116 RATES: $96 for two, $8/night for each additional person. (Several of us will be staying in Ashland as well, so if anyone else stays there we'd be able to carpool, or something... kind of expensive though) Now let me go hunt down campgrounds, I'll post back soon with whatever's open.

Well, it seems that the people who work at the campgrounds have a little bit more of a clue about what they're talking about than the people working at the hotels/motels. (SCORE! That made my night... talking to some halfway-intelligible people ) Here's what I got on campgrounds:
- Baker River Campground
56 Campground Road Rumney, NH 03266 #(603) 786-9707 RATES: Two adults: $18/night (without elec/water), $21 (with elec/water). $9 for each additional person, up to four adults.
- Ames Brook Campground
104 Winona Road Ashland, NH 03217 #(603) 968-7998 RATES: $24 (without elec/water), $28 (with elec/water) for two adults, $6 for each additional adult, $2 for each additional child ( [ This Message was edited by: juliana on 2002-07-29 09:15 ]

- Mountain Pines Campground
2759 Route 25 Rumney, NH 03266 #(603) 786-9934 RATES: $15 for two adults, $7 for each additional adult, no water/elec at sites but water is available. Very close to where we want to be. If we were staying at a campground, I'd pick this one.
