Heck, LW/RT is just an hour from the old doorstep. I think I might make it after all. The last 2 weekends listed both fall within our T-Giving holiday, so either would be fine for me (22-24;29-1). I'd probably spend most of the time at LW with anyone who wants to climb trad.

I'm all for Lost Wall/Rocktown. I was out there climbing this past weekend and it is one of my favorite areas to climb. Short, easy hike in, great routes, and plenty of places to camp on the mtn plus there is always Don Lolo in town for dinner afterwards.

Hmmm... I've been told 6.5 hours to T-wall, and this seems significantly longer. Wouldn't it be easier/shorter to take Hwy 27 south from Chattanooga to La Fayette? Or does that road suck? Or I could come in from the other side (Hwy 136 from I-59), though that looks like a pretty winding, twisting road.

I think the only weekend I could make of the 3 still in contention is the 22nd-24th, but don't worry about me for making your decision, because I'm not sure it would be feasible for me to drive that far for a regular 2 day weekend, unless I could find some people wanting to carpool from here.

I would almost prefer the dates of the 15-17, becuz I will be gone the following weekend, and the weekend after t-day is my birthday and I'm starting to get a lot of crap about not being around for it. Some women!! It's just another stoopid day of the year...why can't she understand that??

I'd be in for Lost Wall/Rocktown too. There are a few bolted climbs at Lost wall and plenty of nice cracks and good trad lines. There are some good top rope climbs at Rocktown too. And that is closer for me coming from New Orleans... _only_ 8 hours.

I'm going somewhere Dec 6-8... if you all decide to do it then that would be great. Otherwise I will probably go to sandrock Dec 6-8 it is closer.

Who is in charge of planning this? If no one is in charge perhaps we should make someone in charge or elect someone to make the final decision!

Don't forget jiadar's poll regarding the dates on page 4 of this thread. Go vote for a date.
jiadar, could you possibly set up a poll for the location? We could just go by that one and the present one for the place and dates. Looks like the 29th-1st is winning out right now.

From what I can tell there isn't much to take charge of.

My last look at the polls had Lostwall/Rocktown on the final weekend in November as the favorite.

The only thing that I know we need to decide now is where we want to camp.

I like the Hangglider launchpad/Mtn bike trail head on top of the Mtn. Its good for groups, free(like all camping on Pigeon Mtn), has a central location, and has one hell of a view.

There is the camping behind the Rocktown Parking lot but it gets pretty crowded most weekends.

How about those 2 sites at the bottom of the mt. on the right near the culvert/dry creek bed? Or the ones along the road on Rocky Lane just before the Rocktown turnoff? The launch pad area isn't a bad idea, except it is prone to nocturnal drunken bubba visits. I would say the campsites at the Rocktown parking are the worst option. There are other sites we have dicovered over the last 10 years, though I am reluctant to mention them here.

Yeah, the hangglider launch is a good place to cut donuts in the 4x4 with a pistol hanging out the window, and the Rocktown parking lot will be a zoo, what about those turnouts on the right, on top of the Mountain before you turn into the road into the parking lot? I've never pulled in those to see how much room was there.

Hey! my mamma's name is nocturnal drunken Bubba! Exactly what are you trying to say boy? Huh?

I forgot about the sites by the side of the road on the way to Rocktown. They have alot less in the wind department than the launchpad, if I can get there before someone else does. They do sometimes have campers and RVs parked in them for days at a time. I think that these sites just before Rocktown road on the right should be plan A. Since the only way to reserve a site is to be in it when someone else shows up I guess that I'll just have to get there a couple of days early. No big deal.

Oh, yeah, how do we go about getting this thing put on the gatherings list on the main page?

So lets do a roll call to see how many people are going to be there. Everybody whose going say AYE!

Well, what I'm thinking is that we'll need to have enough parking to accomodate all the cars, and the spots at the base of the mt. and those ones before the Rocktown turnoff seem to be the best choices as far as having everything to cover the needs of all. We'll probably need at least 2-3 campsites, and all those mentioned are close enough together to where we could easily walk between sites, while having a single central site for festivities and the others for old guys like me who will probably want/need to retire before the younguns. They're also easy to find. I would be willing to go 1 day earlier to secure a couple of sites and it would be nice if we could get someone else local to head up there early as well to be sure we get the desired sites before they get taken. Now, let's pray for good weather!

Damn, BTH, I thought your mamma's name was Bubbetta!
Yeah, chances are, I'd be there anyway even if we weren't having a gathering, but I'm ready to see something like this happen so we can all get to know each other a little better. I'm such a "trust only a few people to belay me" type that I tend to stay w/in the same small group of climbers forever.

This is a little off-forum, but so many are reading this thread that it might be best here. I spoke with the work crew at Sunset Park yesterday, and they are almost finished! The workers are saying that they should be done by the weekend of Nov. 9. There is a note up to please not climb within 200 yds of Sunset Rock, but there is no problem with climbing south or north of that area. I'll be going up again on Nov. 13 to check on the status.
