Those directions look the easiest to me. Be sure to stop at Uncle Jed's and take a look a the merchandise in the back of the store. Most unusual.

With or without comb?

It should really be sorghum syrup.

Yes, people will need to bring shovels. there are no facilities.
I'm bringing firewood, but it would be nice if some other people could pick some up as well. The pickins' are lean up there because campers comb the forest for wood on a regular basis.

People can always stop by and pick up a bundle on the way. The wood will go VERY quickly and we will need LOTS to keep a good fire going, especially at a gathering such as this. if you don't think it can get cold down here, think again. Anne, the wood in the WMA gets picked over relentlessly at the base, and I'm tellin' ya, we will need to bring it in from outside.
Besides, I'd rather not have folks trampling through the woods off the beaten path. And pick, pick, picking stuff that needs to be left to rot and continue the cycle. We need to be "environmentally conscious" at our local crag. Padgett might get upset if we leave too much of a mark.

More information on the gathering:

-The list of people planning to attend is on page 13 of this thread and is being updated there.

-Here
is the link for driving directions:
The directions to the camping area AFTER you turn onto 193 are on page 15 of this thread.

-Here is a link to the information about the gathering on this site.

-park in the spaces along the left side of the road. In particular, the one closest to the sites.

-please let me know if you are lacking anything and I will try and get it for you. PM me for my home phone, if you need to talk to me. I don't have a cell phone, but is there anyone who wants to give their cell no. to those coming from a longer distance?

Sorry Anne, I don't mean to sound so bitchy, but I know the ranger up there pretty well and he is also a very good caving buddy with one of my colleagues at the school. I'll get to hear it from both of them if we don't watch our impact.
edit:
Yikes! I think I may have just revealed a touch of my enviro-nazi tendencies. I'm really not TOO bad.

I'll carry as much wood as I can fit into my truck. If all of the locals will do this as well then we shouldn't have to worry about scavenging anyway.

What is this I hear about fried Turkey?

these are the duties I will be able to perform for the gathering:

-supply climbing gear (shoes, harnesses, a couple of belay devices, chalk bags, ropes, a helmet or two) a couple of sleeping bags maybe a tent.

-set up topropes. Maybe lead a trad route or two with a trusty belayer.

-help people find a tent site.

-help with directions, both to the area after the turn onto 193, and to the crags. (I'm making a map/handout sheet with basic info to give out to everyone.

-I am bringing a good bit of oak firewood myself.

I want to leave it up to others to make welcoming statements and basic crowd control, so to speak. I can't cook or supply food because I don't have stove power for mass meals. I am used to camping in small 2-3 person groups.

Oh yeah, and I want to climb a lot, too!
