[Edit by Jeff: New owner here as of October 2013, and dealing with spam is my first priority. Would love your suggestions in this thread:http://www.rockclimbing.com/...ost=2637993;#2637993] Is anyone else on this forum getting fed up of having to wade through a load of ads for various TV programmes and films. Posted under a variety of names and all getting free ads. I bet the paying advertisers are non too happy. Why can't the moderators spot them quickly and erase them just as quickly. It is driving me away from this now poor forum.

We do the best we can. It's not like we are on the web 24x7.

Apparently the site was sold again with no announcement, and the new owners don't give half a shit about the site and are probably mostly unaware of it. Sounds like it will drift off to die (when it stops bringing in enough ad revenue to cover costs?) at this rate. You may want to save off anything from this site you would lose if it was turned off someday (logbook, photos, ???). Some info here.

JohnCook wrote: Why can't the moderators spot them quickly and erase them just as quickly. Those posts are all automated - it's nearly impossible for a human to keep up with them. Also, it's not really a moderator issue. There are a variety of technical fixes and roadblocks that would stop 95% or more of these bogus postings if only the site owners would get off their asses and get them implemented.

Jay Apparently this website is "worth" $70,000. http://www.siteprice.org/website-worth/www.rockclimbing.com They are out of their mind if they think anyone would pay even remotely close to that for this site. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who would pay $1,000 for this site. With the lack of traffic now, this site is worthless.

I was just wondering how many nods were in Europe as I notice more and more when I check here the top "recent posts" are often spam... It is nearly impossible to stop these being created without creating a lot more work verifying accounts. I think Jim has the right idea, spread the work around the globe.
