Hi friends, I climb consistent 11a-b, but only sport. I am planning to go climbing to Yosemite for about 4-5 days on mid July. I want to learn trad, so I am thinking on hiring a guide or joining a group that wants to share a guide. I know the basics for trad climbing. Any recommendations?? Ballpark on prices?? Anyone looking for a partner to hire a guide or anyone interested on giving trad lessons?? Thanks!!! Juan Cox

Yosemite is quite possible the worst place on the west coast for sport climbing. Less than 1% of the routes there are sport, and the trad routes climb nothing like a sport climb. The guides are overpriced, about $400 a day plus tip. They are great guides, but the Wal-Mart-like company that owns the guiding service is mostly concerned with profits, so they will price gouge you. I would just climb on your own. There are a million climbers there to help you.

There's only one company allowed in Yosemite. Also they will test your knowledge, because they treat everyone as a beginner. Scott is good, but so is Jeff. Now you can climb at Tuolumne with different guide services and get better prices. Take a basic trad class, or seconded the guide.
