Hi, My boyfriend and I are planning a trip during March break. Can anyone recommend any places to stay that are cheap, close to routes and decent. We're looking for cabins or camping, but don't know the area. Thanks! Mel

You'll need to provide a bit more info. Where do you live? Where/how far are you willing to go? Are you actually looking to climb or just camp? How well do you both climb? What type of climbing are you looking for if indeed it is a climbing trip?

Right, sorry! So we live in Ontario but are willing to travel 8-12 hrs? We're looking for somewhere like Kentucky, but less busy? I'm fairly new (5.8-5.10-) he's (5.10-5.11). Any ideas would be appreciated!!! Thanks! Mel

melia83, Summersville Lake West Virginia is the place for you. Sport climbing from 5.8-5.14. The New River Gorge is near. Camping at the grounds I am familiar with doesn't open until Mid -April but check out the state parks web site for available campgrounds. http://www.wvstateparks.com/vacationcabinrentals.html My experience with WV grounds has been that they are clean and have hot showers. What else..? If you can trad lead hit up Seneca rocks. Have fun.

Are you looking for sport/trad/bouldering? The red isn't that bad, Miguel's will be busy, but the crags are generally mellow. The new river gorge is super too. There's a new climbers campground that's free until they get water and power in there.

(Then again, if you were from Thunder Bay, you'd probably know that the only climbing 8-12 hours distant in March is going to be ice climbing.) Trad or sport is a big influence on destinations, too. As people have mentioned: The New River Gorge, The Red River Gorge, Linville Gorge, and Seneca are all possibilities. Seneca and Linville Gorge would be trad rather than sport destinations. The Red and The New would have more sport choices.

Flights to Vegas are usually cheaper than a lot of places. Josh
