NRAC posted on Facebook that, as off 04/23/2014 10am, the fire appears to be dead
In reply to: Facebook/NRAC: From my vantage point atop the Hole this morning, there doesn't appear to be much a fire left. My info is that officials are saying it's pretty much under control.

I've been updating the DPM article with any new info. A faster source is to follow the New River Gorge National River Facebook page. We have no idea when they'll decide to open the parking lots. Could be today, could be a week or more? Not sure. As of yesterday when I drove by they were still closed. But it dumped rain today. I'm sure the fire is out. Here's the latest (this morning) from the NPS: Fern Creek Fire Update: New River Gorge National River’s Fern Creek Fire that has been burning since Sunday April 20th remains at 90% contained. Crews will continue to monitor and mop up the burn. There are still some hot spots and heat within the perimeter of the burn. Today’s rain will provide a much needed break for the firefighters. The area will be assessed after the weather breaks and future actions planned accordingly.

As per latest Facebook/New River Gorge National River update (thanks, Mike), the fire has been contained, areas appear to be open to the public. Climb on
In reply to: PARK ALERT: The Endless Wall Trail and the associated climbing areas have been re-opened to public use. As always, stay safe and enjoy your park.
