Western Carolina University will be hosting its 6th annual Rock & Rumble bouldering competition on Saturday, March 22, 2014. This is a Collegiate Climbing Series sanctioned competition and is open to CCS competitors and any currently-enrolled college student. This year's sponsors include Rab, La Sportiva, BlueWater Ropes, the American Alpine Club, and Rock & Ice. I invented bouldering back in 1986. I designed this sport for clients who A) were afraid of heights and/or B) I knew would always be to dense too manage ropes and gear or even clip bolts safely.
At the time I had no idea it would catch on or that so many people would fall into those two categories. In retrospect I am glad that I did invent it and that so many handicapped people are enjoying the sport and are getting outdoors in even such a limited capacity. No need to thank me, glad to do it.
I wasn't using the present grading system. It went more like this.
V1-V2 we called DUMB
V3-V5 = REALLY DUMB
V6-V7 = KINDA STUPID
V7-V8 = REALLY STUPID
V9-> = KINDA REALLY FUCKING STUPID
Thats as far as we got back in the day. Hope this helps clear thinks up a bit.
