I just got a batch of these straight from Mammut in the mail the other day and they all look like that. Thats part of their design - sort of fused the ends together - it seems like a good idea to me.

Thanks for the replies . My last big techno jump was from tied to sewn nylon . Now that I'm older ( and fatter ) I'm looking into lighter gear more than ever :D

As everyone else pointed out, yes that's supposed to look like that. The reason is that to support the 8mm sling sewing they "tuck" one end inside the other end. To have room to do that they flare out one end of the 8mm sling to approximately 10mm, stick it in and sew it flat with the protective cover over it. Their 6mm slings use the same method as well. It's actually a pretty innovative idea to flare the weave out like that - props to mammut's R&D guys. On the topic Petzl has 8mm slings in their catalogs but I've not seen them in person to see if they are the same. Everytime I tried ordering them they were backordered indefinately.

I'm diggin the lightweight and less bulk . I actually just ordered three of the new 6mm x 24 inchers . I have a hex with a cut in the sheath of it's cord so what do you think of this as a temporary fix : http://www.picturepuppy.com/...prowler/p9170040.jpg Obviously not cost effective to sling them this way , but functional in a pinch .

I trophied it  If that works, it's half tempting to do all my BD hexes in a manner as such...ok well maybe not all of them as I could buy a set of WC dyneema slung hexes for the cost, but a cool idea none the less. I'm surprised it fits.
