anyone else seen one of these in the gym? They just installed one in mine, havnt seen it in action yet. Its kind of like an autobelay but you have to manage your own slack and it will hold you in place if you fall rather than letting you down ala autobelay.

just curious to see if anyone has had any experience or heard of em.

Based on being in Colorado, I'm assuming that you are talking about the one at Rockn and Jamn.

You don't have to manage your slack at all, it moves up with you. You do have to pull a lever to lower, it's very similar to rapping with a gri. Pull the handle according to the speed you want to descend.

What I like is that it doesn't exert so damn much upward force. I think I weigh 30-40 lbs less on the other auto devices. This one isn't so bad. I do like the idea of having to finish and not hangdog like the other style promotes.

It's not 100% stupid proof. It's not going to cause an accident but could easily strand a first day climber at the top of the wall. Ask the employees, I bet it's happened.

yeah its at rock and jam in thornton. Couldnt find a website for it, il check tonight to see if I can find any more specific info on it. they have an info sheet taped to the wall by it, but its really just saying 'ask us how to use this first!'.
