A terrible tragedy. Daryn helped me out with beta on Utah ice conditions more than once (to save me the drive from CA).

Rest in peace.

Damn, this is sure a sad thing. There are only a few that tell it the way he would. No sugar coating or hint of honey, just jam it at you with the sweat and truth all over the surface, as it should be. That is what I loved the most about him.
I will truly miss the wit, humor, and knowledge of this man, and cannot even express what a hole that leaves in this community. RIP Daryn.

My condolences to all his family and friends.

I did not know Daryn but had some correspondence with him through here and by email.

I could tell from our discussions that he was very knowledgeable and passionate about climbing.

Sad I will never meet him.

Respects.

Erin, thanks for letting us know and I'm so sorry to hear the news - Daryn will very much be missed in this community.

I guess this is very much real life on the Internet - and how society has changed. Our comings, goings, and musings linger, frozen in time as a lossless image of us indelibly impressed on a ubiquitous bit cloud. One can only guess the Egyptian Pharohs would be terribly envious of it all.

This is truly incomprehensible news. So sad.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

He is already sorely missed here.

I’ve only know stymingersfink as a virtual person, but his clarity, wit, and insightfulness were a real contribution to this site.

To Erin and other family members, my condolences and prayers on this tragic loss.

Damn, this is very sad to hear.
My condolences to his family, friends, and those of us who only knew him on this site.

Sty,
There is no doubt, you will be missed. Your knowledge and wit were abundantly displayed throughout rc.com as well as your love of the silly game that connects us all. You may have moved on but you'll always be here. Rest In Peace.

Wow, a shock to us all.

I never met sty, or even directly communicated with him. His knowledge of big wall climbing surely added to this place.

We never met. We'd trade e-mails from time to time, banter back and forth on message boards, and managed to disagree on just about every topic possible.

Except climbing. We both loved climbing.

Rock, ice, alpine. Single pitch, multi-pitch, and multi-day adventures.

For two guys who never met, we had a lot in common, and managed to parlay that into a friendship that spanned miles and years.

You were too young to die, brother. 35 year old men should not have heart attacks. If they do, they damn sure shouldn't die from them.

I miss you, my friend. I regret that we never tied into the opposite ends of a 10 millimeter hunk of braided nylon and asked each other to trust our lives to the other.

Damn this world, and damn these circumstances.

I'll meet you in another life, buddy, and we'll climb ice until we reach the sky. After that, we'll drink a couple beers, tell some lies about women and mountains, then do it again the next morning.

Rest in Peace, my friend.

This is correct.

We met a few times out ice climbing and traded phone numbers for getting together the next ice season.
I liked Daryn the first time I met him.
He was super talented on the ice and would go and repeat any new ice climb that I would establish. Jumping on the internet and telling everyone how great it was.
He was one of the 1st to repeat the new 10 pitch ice climb on Stairway to Heaven that was established as well as putting together a killer photo of the climb.
What a great guy and great climber!
My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I met him here On RC when i lived in SLC we planed on getting together to climb but never did. I moved to Coeur D'Alene and He took my job. I did climb with him once at work and I am disappointed I will not get to rock climb with him. Even though I never climbed with him I thought of him as my mentor.

He will be missed.

As someone who doesn't frequent rc.com as much as I used to, it was always nice to come on and feel something familiar. The dingus', the arrogant bastards, the rgold's and the stymingersfink's. And yes, even the jt512's. THese are the personalities that gave rc it's Cheer's appeal. It is never easy to hear of losing one of our own. We may have different opinions and we may defend those opinions through blood, sweat, and insults. In the end, we are all climbers, but more importantly, we are all human.

Rest in Peace, Daryn.

To Erin and all those who had the good fortune to know him personally, may peace be upon you. I'm one of the many who never had that honor, but "knew" him only through this site. He made me laugh; this makes me cry. I'm pleased to say that amid all the spray, he and I agreed far more often than we disagreed, and I felt that "if Sty's on my side, I don't care who's not."

But really, what the hell does "stymingersfink" mean? I guess in the afterlife, as in life, he'll always have us guessing. Peace, my man.

I think it means Stinky Fingers

I am saddened to hear that the climbing community has lost such a great entertainer. I only met Daryn last May in Indian Creek. It was there that I heard more jokes in the course of an evening campfire than I have ever heard in my entire life...and the classic was the next day at Incredible Hand Crack...he hiked up in a sarong with nothing underneath and geared up in a harness and attempted to climb....I still cringe thinking about that site...oh my ;)
God Bless and Keep you Always, Daryn...you are remembered!
Best wishes to all of Daryn's friends and family...I am so sorry!
Blessings,
Andrea
