two fingers are sore - should I take note?

Hi everybody,

So, I was climbing a couple of days ago and went a bit too hard on a crimpy hold. Now, two of my fingers (middle finger and the one below it) are sore. Particularly, the non-middle finger - I definitely notice it when I try to use it for some simple task like sliding down a window. Even now, if I hook either of these around the thumb of my other hand and pull, I feel a fairly sharp pain in the joints.

It does seem like its been getting a bit better every day since the 'injury' though - I recall that even making a fist was noticeably painful the day after it but it is easy now. I've deliberately abstained from climbing to let the healing take place.

Is this the correct response? Should I wait till the pain is fully gone before returning to the gym?

Also, given these symptoms, what is the probable nature of the injury and expected recovery time?

Thanks for the help!

Depends on the type of injury. In general, ice and ibuprofin are good first steps. Everyone injures their hands when they first start out - I certainly did and today was my first day back after nearly a month.

I had an A3 pulley injury on my ring finger - same as yours - but that would hurt in a different area, where you would put a ring, on the inside of the hand.

Rest, ice and ibuprofen. If it doesn't get better, a doctor may have better advice.

A month later and they're still sore. My right hand can't do what my left hand can. Beginning to think I should see some kind of medical professional...
