I will be heading to Bishop in the next month to Climb at Owens and I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to throw the mt. bike in the truck. Thanks

In reply to: Lots of stuff in Mammoth, and I second Rock Creek. Um, you guys do realize it's winter and there's about 15' of snow in Mammoth (probably nearly that much in Rock Creek) right now, don't you? Odds are, it won't have melted much by next month! There's all kinds of dirt roads around the tablelands, gorge area, and down in the foothills near Big Pine, and Lone Pine in the Alabama Hills. Those would be a better, less snowy bet.

Lower Rock Creek, from toms place to round Valley might be snow free. Check out descents in Mazourka Canyon Inyo Mtns. outside of Independence. Good riding in the Alabama Hills (and climbin' too). Another outrageous descent - From the town of Darwin to Darwin Falls in Panamint Valley (just outside Death Valley N.P.) Or the Swansea Grade. Inyo Mtns. outside of Keeler, near Lone Pine. I'm local to Lone Pine so if you need weather info before you go, let me know.

I'm heading there at the same time (last week of April) and was hoping for some good ridin' too. Any guidebook's or actual trail head information you could recommend? Since we'd be hauling our bikes from CO.. I do hope the ridin' is good. Cheers,

There is a guide book but it is kinda lame...written by some senior cirizens, it is mostly roads. End of April some other killer rides will be opening up...Black canyon and Silver canyon in the White Mtns outside Big Bine and Bishop respewctively. Coyote Flat to Baker Creek or shannon Canyon...exquisite, (ooops.et that one out...it's a secret). Give a holler we'll go for a ride. I have a 16 mile downhill from 10,000 feet to 4000 fett, almost free of snow..But it's a secret.

secret dirty talk of downhill single tracks gets me hot The only question my sorry ass has is, whether or not I can shuttle it. Working a long descent shuttle ride in my neck of the woods. Should be killer if it works.

Yeah, that's the book. As I said written by senior citizens. Don must be pushing 70 these days. (we go way back -the first kamakzi downhill race). Yes, these are all shuttles. keep it on two wheels
