I've only been climbing for 3 months but want to learn how to lead. Does anyone know anyplace in So Cal where I can take a class or something?

Thanks.

There are at least two rock climbing schools in SoCal that have been in business for years and have excellent reputations: Vertical Adventures and the Joshua Tree Rock Climbing School. VA operates out of J Tree in the winter and Suicide/Tahquitz in the summer. I do not know if JTRCS operates in the summer. I can personally vouche for VA, as I took a number of their courses when I was a beginner. You should be able to find them on the Web.

I think that professional instruction is great for learning to lead trad. If, though, you are first interested in learning to lead sport, any experienced, safe, sport climber can teach you. As a beginner, though, I don't know how you judge whether your mentor is safe and competent.

Thanks Jay. I'll definitely look into Vertical Adventures.
