Effective August 5th 2019 the Riverside Rock Quarry located in Jurupa Valley will be temporarily closed to climbing. The closure is due to a large home and park development that will be at the base of the cliff and wrapping around the north and south sides of the cliff. The closure will be in effect for a minimum of one year while the construction is underway. The So Cal Climber’s Coalition (SCCC) has been working directly with Jurupa Valley Parks Department, Lennar Corporation (the land owner/developer) with support from Access Fund to work out a long term solution for the ownership of the cliff and long term access for climbers. The development will include a baseball field, park, snack bar and restrooms right at the base of the north end of the cliff and SCCC is working with JVPD and Lennar to include a climber parking lot with trash cans. Matthew Hulet (President of SCCC) stated “this creates a unique opportunity for climbers to sit down with a land developer and a municipality to work through the best long term solution for everyone. This project will clean up all the trash, eliminate further dumping and possibly turn the quarry into a climbing park.” For more information about SCCC please visit the website (which is still under construction) socalclimberscoalition.org or their Instagram and Facebook
