Climbing Hold Subscriptions

So, I've been looking around to set myself up for some climbing holds for the woody project and it looks like a lot of companies offer a monthly subscription to receive a set of holds for around $40. Looks like you usually need to sign up for a year and shipping + hardware is mostly included.

Anyone had good or bad experiences with this service? Does it just come down to which companies' holds you prefer or does this not even factor into the subscription decision? i.e. you may like certain holds by a company but are they ever included in the monthly sets. Are you just in it for the surprise?

I guess it's a weigh-up of whether you get good service, quality, variation within and between monthly sets, a choice between sets and the amount sent.

Any thoughts? Do you subscribe and are you happy?

Here is what I have researched so far on monthly subscriptions...

Companies with subscriptions:

Element: choice between two new sets, 12 month minimum, incl shipping and hardware, $40

So ill: first month free, new sets, 12 month minimum, incl shipping and hardware, $39

Climb-It: good variation of hold sizes each month, 12 months minimum, incl shipping and hardware, $45

Rock Candy: new designs, can exchange if not happy, value + 25-50%, 12 month minimum, incl hardware and shipping, $39

E-Grips: new designs, size varies through year, can exchange if not happy, 12 month minimum, incl shipping (hardware?), $40

Project: three subscription levels $39, $59, $99, can switch subscription levels or put on hold, includes hardware (shipping?)

ThreeBall: no contract, value +20%, good variation through year, incl hardware and shipping, three levels $50, $75, $100

Contact: new designs, tailored to your wall angle, good variation through year, semi-annual or annual sign-up bonus holds, no contract if monthly, incl shipping (hardware?), $45 (quarterly also available)

Atomik: choice w/w'out hardware, choice of color shades, tailor to angle of your wall, value + 20%, incl shipping, three subscription levels $50, $75, $100

Asana: new designs, shipping?, hardware?, $35 (6 months), $30 (12 months)

Nicros: free t-shirt on sign up, 12 month minimum, new designs, hold sets pre-determined for the year, variation through year, shipping $6-$12 each month, hardware?, price up to $50 and at 20% discount of normal pricing.

Not sure:
Voodoo:
Revolution:
Franklin: no prices?
Synrock:
Morganic:

Please feel free to add more info.

One of the guys at our gym is getting holds from Rock Candy. And, since he doesn't have his own wall yet, he is bringing the holds to the gym to use in the meantime.

I'm pretty happy with it Tongue -but I am not the one paying. I believe the service and delivery are great, on schedule, no problems, etc. There is a nice variety of holds, sizes and shapes. I don't think you get to pick which specific holds you get, and I can't tell you off the top of my head how many holds you get per month, but i can check... Rock candy hold textures are not my favorite, but they have a large variety of useful shapes, and it is nice to have variety.

Thanks for your input! Yeah, so far I've had good feedback from Rock Candy. My wife and I think their holds look like huge gummies (also those from So Ill)! Heh!

I've also received a few samples already from some companies. Some of these came really quick and some never even charged me a cent. I figure paying for shipping of samples isn't a problem and am really happy with what I have got so far.

I still haven't decided on a subscription yet as there are quite a few I like, considering great service, hold texture, and how many hold sets I actually like the look of from each company.

So far I've had great response and service from; So Ill, Element, Rock Candy, Contact, Climb-It, E-Grips and Atomik.
