If all goes well tonight i should have my 1st entry in the mail tomorrow. along with some suspect gear for our destructive enjoyment! Here's a pic![image]http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=3230;[/image]

looks like a really interesting design, looking forward to seeing how much it holds, what's the placement range on it? i wouldn't say it's pretty but with some solid pieces of metal smashing together i bet it'll hold a truck

This guy and a less robust aluminum version will be in the mail shortly. We didn't have a way to cut a keyhole down the threaded rod, which wrecks havoc on the stability. The rod is 3/4" Acme threaded 8:1 rod. The nut was cut down from a 3/4" hex nut. The outer tube is some cro-moly rod that we salvaged and it was bored out on a lathe. The ends were beveled on a bandsaw (7 degrees) and we pressed a snug channel for the cordage. It's slung with 5mm tech cord.

I honestly expect it to pop out of your rig long before it breaks.

Edited to insert the picture.

Well I sent off my entry today, I wouldn’t say that it’s finished more like abandoned, but I’ve just run out of time. If I had two more weeks and could spend more money I could fix my mistakes but it is what it is now. I think it will work just fine I just had a lot of problems with the trigger, so I’ll lose easy of placement points. I spent too much time of form and ran out of time for the function. Oh well I’m already starting on next years.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.

Sorry, I should have explained more. The other cams are old school trango flex cams sizes 6, 7, and 8 (equivalent to BD 1, 2, and 3), I put them in for scale; you did say 12” was the max your puller could handle right. I didn’t copy the Totem cam I just have 2 sets of cables to distribute the load on both side of the lobes. The cam is made from raw materials not cannibalized parts.

We kicked around the idea of mounting a joint, a la a clamp, but decided against it (too complex, fragile, so forth). I laced the two sides together with 2mm utility cord, so it'll be in the mail tomorrow.

whoo if i had one of those my carbon fiber cam might have worked.... i had some awesome 7mm thick CF. I am so curious how much CF lobes could hold.
Awesome job on the spiderman cam!

Yeah it’s a waterjet. I’ve been doing a lot of projects lately (control arms and hydrogen booster for my truck, custom speaker grills, ice axes). I got the look over the glasses when I told my boss I wanted to cut the cam lobes out , I’ll have to cool it for awhile. It was worth it though, thanks for all the compliments.
