*~* This really isnt that interesting I just felt like writing abou it*~*

Alright all year my 2 best guy friends have amde fun of me for climbing... well I took them indoor during Xmas break, and they loved it! Well today I decided I would take them on real rock up at Black Mtn... Well one of them couldnt go, so Me and my climbing partner were gonna take the one that could... well then my climbing partner cant... so its jsut gonna be me and Matt... then my foriegn exchange student decides he wants to go... and be fore long one of his friends ( that has NEVER clibmed b4) decides to come too... then one of the guys i worked with at camp decides he wants to go to! well the roads are really icey, and Chris (the guy from camp) and I drive really front wheel drive cars... so we end up having to pile 5 people, 2 full back packs, 2 ropes, and all other kinds of loose gear in Johns car and drive up the mtn... well the whole way up its ice, and on the way my climbing partner calls and tells me he is at the top but busted is radiator... well I'm all freakin out and we finally get up there and I'm just like oh well lets go climb.. after about an hour he tells me he's just kidding, then he leaves and goes to work... well I'm stuck there with 3 guys that know nothing about climbing and chris who has climbed outdoors only a few times... anyways, so we set up a climb, everyone attempts it... I'm the only one that amde it to the top although I did fall.. then Chris and I set up anothher really hard route to set up( these are all toprope) and everyone else has fun while we are working our butts off.. well once we get down there they decide they dont want to climb... and my hands are so cold I honestly cannot describe in words how bad they hurt... anyway, the story has no point really except that Im a crazy dumbass who would rather climb with my hands hurting more than any pain ever then not climb at all...

What's up???
Anyways, that is how it goes when you take newbies out. You have to do a lot of work and not much in return, except sharing your love of rock with someone. Try guiding a bunch of out of shape, overweight yuppies day after day. Hey, at least you were climbing...

Crap, haven't you ever heard of a paragraph? Or a period ending a sentence instead of ellipses?

You took some noobs out to toprope and had fun.

See, I just told your entire story, except that this version is coherent. :P

I know what you mean about working your butt off setting up top-ropes and the beginners don't even appreciate it. They probably just don't know how much of a pain in the ass it can be.

sounds like a doozy of a trip when you took on total beginners one after another. whenever someone new wants to try rock climbing with me, i always make them go to the gym first. just seems like they pay more attention there when you teach them the basics, as opposed to being distracted when they're outside the first time. maybe it's the clinical feel of the indoor environment, or the sweaty adrenaline aroma that kicks in their techniques learning instinct. and if there're any of them that are only so so into climbing, they'll weed themselves out by the end of that

and before going outside, i always tell them right off that climbing is a lot fun, but it isn't some disneyland joyride. there'll be hiking, and down time when we're setting up achors and when other people are climbing. if you're going to come, you have to come with enthusiasm and willing to learn so you know what you're doing

and as far as feeling unappreciated for all the anchor work, sure, that irks sometimes. the set up work isn't as exciting as climbing itself. but to me, there's something about coming up to a place and by setting up a proper anchor, you turn an otherwise dangerous situation into a relatively safe one. being able to do that is part of my climbing enjoyment. unless one of my more regular partners is with us, i pretty much assume i'll be doing all the work, which i don't mind between friends, or soon-to-be friends. i mean, last time i went backpacking, my friends all carried heavier packs than mine because i'm such a lousy hiker. what's a little give and take between friends
