I was thinking of ordering a pair Borreal Pyros from Sport Extreme.com and I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered shoes from an online retailer. They seem to have a pretty good return policy. I just figured if I get size wrong I'll just return them and oder a pair of Zen's which I can size here.

chances are if you order the wrong size they wont take them back! and you would be "screwed" so they say ... I ordered a pair of cobras online from www.barrabes.com what I did was I went to the store tried on the shoes I wanted (which was all of them ) and the ordered the shoes online, it seems evil but I saved 40$ doing this, DO NOT just order them online, cause shoes are vital for climbing.

Keep and eye on that site It changes often.
The pyros were on here last week for $58.
The zens which are'nt much different that the pyros are $58 right now.
Not sure of their return policy. Go to a different store and try them on to be sure.
But you probably already knew that huh!
I use the zens and they work fine.

There are hardly any climbing stores around me. There are two that are about 1.15 hours away but their prices suck. For me, I order EVERYTHING online. So far I have had 0 problems with any site. As for return policy, check their shipping and return policy statement on their web site. Make sure you ask them about returns if you think it is evitable, in your case, shoes.

Buying online can be a scary thought. Try them on if you can... But, what I think Xen failed to mention the buying online option is not a cost savings thing but a lack of selection in his (and my) local area. God we want the cool shoes up here in Canada...

Sportextreme will exchange stuff for other sizes/products and all I lose is the shipping cost. But even with the lost shipping cost I'll save mony or at least match prices here. But its a risk I'm willing to take to get a nifty new pair of shoes. Like I said worse comes to worse, I'll just change my order to a pair of zens which I can size in my area.

i haven't bought climbing gear online but i have done that for many other things, even a computer monitor. it is a great idea to try them on at a store first then get them online.

about online retailers, there are sites that rate sellers:
http://www.bizrate.com
http://www.resellerratings.com/
http://www.ratings.net/internet.cfm

to name a few. look up the name of the dealer and see if they are rated and how they rate. that way you can shop in confidence. my experiences have been really good overall and i do alot of shopping online.
