Anyone heard of this device being used as a roped solo device?

No. I would get a dmm belay keeper if you plan on doing this and/or keep the backup knots short. The Sum has the unusual and strange ability to stick in the open, non-locked position. The upside is that I suspect that it might be the gentleist, after the Silent Partner, of these types of devices on your rope. Faders trumpets how it can take a lead fall.

I got myself a SUM and I´m loving it! Far better than grigri, IMHO. It handles amazingly fine, and is safer too. I´m very interested in using it as some friends use grigri (solo device). If you get any info about this use, plz tell me. thanks!

I would stay with gear specialized in solo climbing, certainly when you are leading. A lot of people do not understand what kind of forces are create in a fall. Also I think this device would be a pain (In toprope) to have to manually pull the rope through and climbing at the same time. It my be okay for a rope ascending and belaying, but that is it.
