I am a little unfamiliar with the state laws for climbing in MO and Il. Is it illegal to climb on all bluffs near Alton, Il and the bluffs along the Katy Trail in St. Charles County, MO? Those bluffs would be good climbing but no one is ever climbing on them. I must assume that it is illegal. Otherwise, there would be more climbing of them. Any responses would be cool.

I don't know about Il.; but the climbing above the Katy Trail is generally off access. Due in part to rangers justified fears of massive blocks falling onto John q. public walking by. I think some may be working on changing that rule....Columbia is the home of our "access fund" rep.- you may try to contact him for more info. His name is Barry Gilbert. Good Luck! Jer p.s. there are many developed routes along the Katy trail (anyways) and can be found in Metamorphic Forms by Marcus Floyd.
